Updated:Pakistan beat West Indies by 14 runs.
| Pakistan | West Indies |
| 178/6 (20) | 164/7 (20) |
Pakistan kicked off their T20I series with a solid win, holding off the West Indies by 14 runs in Lauderhill. Saim Ayub lit up the top order with a stylish 57, taking his time before shifting gears and smashing two massive sixes to push Pakistan’s total to 178. The middle and lower order chipped in just enough. Mohammad Haris even cracked a six off his only ball to make sure the scoreboard kept ticking. The West Indies bowlers kept it tight for the most part, especially Shamar Joseph with his 3-for, but Pakistan squeezed out 58 runs in the final 31 balls.

The West Indies made a bright start in their chase but soon found themselves tangled in Pakistan’s web of spin. Nawaz led the spin charge with 3 wickets, turning the game during the middle overs. Shaheen Afridi kept things fiery up front, and Muqeem kept the squeeze on. Though Jason Holder gave fans a brief thrill with four towering sixes at the end, his unbeaten 30 off 12 was too little, too late. In the end, Pakistan’s bowling brains outclassed the Windies’ power-hitting dreams.

WI vs PAK 2025 1st T20I – Pakistan’s Initiative to Start the Battle
The series between the West Indies and Pakistan was actually not part of the original schedule; it was a last-minute addition. The reason for this is Pakistan’s preparation for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Since this is the case, let’s take a look at the current form of both teams.
WI vs PAK – Pakistan’s Recent T20I Form
Since Pakistan is focused on preparing for the 2026 World Cup, let’s start with them. If we look at Pakistan’s recent T20I matches, we can see that many of the players in action are new faces. This shows that Pakistan is actively developing new talent and gaining valuable international experience. For example, Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, and Mohammad Haris all played key roles in the 1-3 batting positions during their series against Bangladesh. Although Farhan’s recent form in international cricket has been a bit inconsistent, his form in the PSL has been excellent. With more experience, he could very well become Pakistan’s opening batsman in the future.

As for Haris, he too has faced issues with consistency – he only scored 2 runs against New Zealand, but then followed up with an unbeaten 107 against Bangladesh. As for Ayub, he suffered an ankle injury earlier this year. Although he has returned to play, it will take more time for him to fully recover. As for the other players, there’s nothing particularly noteworthy at the moment, so I won’t go into further detail.

WI vs PAK – West Indies’ Recent T20I Form
From my observation, one major issue for the West Indies is their over-reliance on Nicholas Pooran in the middle order. With Pooran’s retirement, there’s a clear lack of firepower in that section of the batting lineup. Against lower-ranked teams, they might manage just fine, but when facing strong sides, that’s when the problems arise. For example, in their match against England, if Powell or Rutherford fail to perform and get out early, or if they don’t score enough runs, the result will almost certainly be a loss.

The current opening partnerships are also not very stable. Whether it’s Evin Lewis, Brandon King, or Johnson Charles, they tend to get a bit too over-excited, making mistakes that lead to early dismissals. Sometimes, they don’t even reach double digits. This issue also extends to the death overs, where their bowling depth is quite lacking. Apart from Shepherd and Joseph, the others just don’t seem to have the reliability needed during the crucial moments.

WI vs PAK – Conclusion
Looking at all this, it’s clear that both teams have their respective issues. Both are in a phase of transitioning between experienced players and new faces. It’s hard to predict the outcome of this T20I series, as both teams are still in their transition period. Besides the veterans, the performances of the other players remain inconsistent. The big question is how long will this phase last? Will these new players become more stable or show significant improvement before the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup?

WI vs PAK 2025 1st T20I – Venue History&Analysis: Central Broward Regional Park Stadium
Stadium Capacity: Around 25,000 spectators
Stadium Address: 3700 NW 11th Place, Lauderhill, FL 33311, USA
About the Stadium:
Central Broward is the first ICC-certified international cricket stadium built in the USA, costing approximately $70 million and completed in 2007. However, the official certification came in 2010, and it was in the same year that the stadium hosted its first T20I match. Although the USA did not participate in that particular match, it was a significant moment for the country. It marked the beginning of the USA’s ability to host international cricket events. That said, the USA national team’s first-ever participation in a T20I match came in 2019, the same year Central Broward received ICC certification to host ODI matches, and hosted its first-ever ODI match, where the USA team participated and secured their first-ever ODI victory.

In 2022, Central Broward underwent an $8.4 million upgrade and expansion to prepare for the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which is co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies. The USA will have three stadiums hosting the tournament, with Central Broward being one of them. It will host four group-stage matches, with the competing teams being the USA, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Ireland, Nepal, and Canada.
