Pakistan lit up Lahore with a thrilling all-round show to bag their first home T20I series win in three years! Sahibzada Farhan was on fire, smashing 74 off just 41 balls, including six sixes, while Hasan Nawaz added a cool-headed unbeaten 51. Their 103-run stand with Mohammad Haris set the tone for a solid 201 for 6. The batters looked in total control especially in the powerplay, where they matched a record 67 runs. Though things slowed down a bit at the end, the damage was already done.

Bangladesh looked sharp early in their chase, racing to 44 without loss, but then came the collapse of doom—5 wickets fell in 3 overs! Abrar Ahmed spun a web around the middle order with 3 wickets, sending the visitors into freefall. The only spark? Tanzim Hasan Sakib, who walked in at No. 9 and whacked a blazing 50 with five sixes—talk about fighting till the end! But Pakistan’s bowlers stayed sharp and wrapped things up with a comfortable 57-run win. Series sealed, Lahore buzzing!

PAK vs BAN 2025 2nd T20I: A rematch five years in the making!

Pakistan and Bangladesh have met twice before at Gaddafi Stadium, both times during the 2020 T20I series. Both those matches went Pakistan’s way. Bangladesh, batting first in those games, managed only an average of 138.5 runs. Now, if you look at the stats from 2015 to 2025, the average first innings score in T20Is is around 167. So, this low scoring by Bangladesh clearly shows they still struggle against quality pace bowling.

PAK vs BAN – Back at Gaddafi after five years, will things change?

Looking at Bangladesh’s performance against pace bowling in the last five years, their average score has improved by 6.9 runs and their dismissal rate has come down by 2.9%. But honestly, I don’t think the result will change immediately. Sure, if Mahmudullah, Najmul Hossain Shanto, and Litton Das click on the day, with at least two of them firing, Bangladesh might have a chance. But remember, Mahmudullah has retired now, so Shanto and Das will have to carry the responsibility.

PAK vs BAN – Significant improvement against pace bowling?

As mentioned earlier, Bangladesh has shown some steady progress against fast bowling over recent years. Between 2015 and 2025, their average runs went up by 10.2, and their dismissal rate dropped by 5.1%. But looking deeper at the team data, Bangladesh depends heavily on Mahmudullah, Shanto, and Litton Das. If two out of these three fail early, you can pretty much write Bangladesh off. And with Mahmudullah announcing retirement in March this year, there’s a big void in the middle order. Towhid Hridoy has taken up the middle-order spot in T20Is since then. But the question is, can Hridoy handle this crucial role?

PAK vs BAN – Towhid Hridoy’s recent form

Since Mahmudullah’s retirement, Hridoy has played only four matches, averaging just 18 runs per innings. Against New Zealand in the ICC Champions Trophy, he scored only 7 runs, while in the T20I series against UAE, he got 20, 45, and 0. The numbers are small but it’s clear he still needs time to adjust to the T20I pace. Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s middle order remains fragile. Even if Shanto fills in, if he fails and others don’t step up, Bangladesh’s recent poor performances will continue. Their loss to 15th-ranked UAE is a painful example of this weakness.

PAK vs BAN – Final pre-match thoughts

After all this analysis, honestly, I’m not backing Bangladesh to win. Apart from their ongoing struggle against quality pace bowling, the retirement of their key middle-order batsman Mahmudullah has hit their firepower hard. Facing a pace-heavy Pakistan attack, I really can’t see how Bangladesh will pull off a win unless Pakistan decides to rest some key players, but let’s be real, how likely is that?!

Pakistan’s Key Players to Watch

  • Shaheen Shah Afridi – Shaheen is Pakistan’s most dangerous new-ball bowler, especially at Gaddafi Stadium where the hard pitch helps him generate bounce and swing. With an economy rate of just 7.5 against Bangladesh, he frequently removes top-order batters within the first four overs. If he gets early breakthroughs, it sets the tone for the rest of the bowling attack and puts immense pressure on Bangladesh’s middle order. He’ll be crucial during the first innings before dew affects the ball’s grip.
  • Babar Azam – Babar is the backbone of Pakistan’s batting lineup. At Gaddafi Stadium, he has a batting average over 40 and a strike rate around 130, showing his ability to adapt to the surface and pace. He offers stability and plays long innings, especially important when setting a target or chasing under pressure. Against Bangladesh, his calm leadership and calculated risk-taking allow Pakistan to build strong foundations.
  • Haris Rauf – Rauf’s speed and aggressive bowling are lethal in the final overs, especially under lights. With an economy rate of 7.8 against Bangladesh, he often bowls during the most challenging phases. His late-innings spells help Pakistan control totals or defend targets. On a Gaddafi surface where dew can limit spin, Rauf’s ability to vary pace and hit yorkers becomes vital in the last 5 overs.
  • Mohammad Rizwan – Rizwan excels in both powerplay and finish. He averages over 45 at Gaddafi and rotates strike effectively. His consistency against Bangladesh gives Pakistan a reliable opening, while his sharp wicketkeeping strengthens their defense. Rizwan’s ability to shift gears mid-innings and maintain tempo is especially valuable when dew flattens out the pitch and favors the batters.

Bangladesh’s Key Players to Watch

  • Shakib Al Hasan – Shakib is Bangladesh’s most experienced player and their key all-rounder. With the bat, he stabilizes the middle overs and rotates strike, while his left-arm spin becomes especially useful on slow surfaces. In past matches, he’s delivered tight spells with an economy below 7.5. When dew kicks in, his ability to adjust quickly will help Bangladesh remain competitive in both innings.
  • Litton Das – Litton is known for his fast starts, which are critical in powerplays. Though inconsistent, his ability to find gaps and play aerial shots makes him dangerous if he settles in. Against Pakistan’s pace attack, his first six overs will be vital. If he scores quickly early, it can offset later challenges when facing quality spin or dew-affected bowling.
  • Mustafizur Rahman – Mustafizur’s strength lies in his cutters and off-speed variations, making him effective in the final overs. Although Gaddafi’s dry pitch may reduce his grip early on, dew later can make his slower balls harder to read. If Bangladesh needs to defend a total, he’ll be the go-to bowler in overs 17–20.
  • Taskin Ahmed – Taskin brings bounce and raw pace, making him a valuable threat in the first 4–5 overs. Though his economy rate is higher than ideal, early wickets can break Pakistan’s rhythm. If he removes one of Babar or Rizwan early, Bangladesh can build pressure before dew makes bowling harder.

PAK vs BAN 2025 2nd T20I – Venue History&Analysis: Gaddafi Stadium

Stadium Capacity: Approximately 27,000 spectators

Stadium Address: Gaddafi Stadium, Fortress Stadium Road, Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan

Stadium History:

Gaddafi Stadium, originally named Lahore Stadium, was established in 1959 in the Punjab city of Lahore, Pakistan. In 1974, it was renamed in honor of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. That same year, the stadium hosted its first international Test match upon completion. Gaddafi Stadium notably hosted the final of the 1996 Cricket World Cup, where Sri Lanka claimed their first-ever World Cup title.

Ironically, it was also Sri Lanka that suffered a tragic terrorist attack near this venue in 2009, when their national cricket team was ambushed en route to the stadium. Though several players were only injured, the attack led to the deaths of six Pakistani police officers and two civilians. As a result, Pakistan was stripped of its co-hosting rights for the 2011 Cricket World Cup by the ICC, and many international teams refused to tour Pakistan for years. Only in recent times has the impact of that event gradually faded. Today, Gaddafi Stadium remains one of the most important and best-equipped cricket venues in Pakistan.

Stadium Features:

Gaddafi Stadium is considered a relatively balanced venue, but due to its hard surface, it significantly favors fast bowlers. Spinners typically become more effective only in the latter half of the match when the pitch starts to break down. For batters, the boundary size-ranging between 60 and 70 meters—favors power-hitters and designated finishers.

However, in night matches, atmospheric conditions can introduce a layer of dew starting around 8 to 9 PM. This can shift the balance of the game, as the ball becomes harder to grip, leading to flatter trajectories and making it easier for batters to hit big. Although Pakistan has started using anti-dew chemical sprays in recent years, dew can still be a factor, especially in winter or after 10 PM.

Advantage Analysis:

The pitch conditions heavily favor fast bowlers, which plays into Pakistan’s strengths, especially with their home advantage and a strong pace attack led by Afridi, Rauf, and Mohammad Wasim Jr. Bangladesh, often struggling to handle high pace, tends to collapse under pressure. Afridi and Rauf, in particular, have impressive economy rates of 7.5 and 7.8 respectively when playing against Bangladesh.

In the two T20Is held in 2020 at this venue, Bangladesh was clearly overwhelmed by Pakistan’s pace attack, averaging only 138.5 runs per match. While Pakistan batting second in both games contributed to this outcome, the root of the issue lies in Bangladesh’s inability to adapt to fast bowling. Even if the batting order were reversed, the results likely wouldn’t differ much unless Bangladesh finds a way to counter high-quality pace.
