Australia turned up the heat in Kingston with a sizzling chase, as Josh Inglis and Cameron Green lit up Sabina Park with an unbeaten 131-run stand. Inglis went full beast mode, smashing 78 off just 33 balls, while Green coolly backed him up with 56 from 33. After a shaky start at 42 for 2, the pair made West Indies pay for every dropped catch (and there were plenty) by cruising home with 28 balls to spare. The scoreboard read 173 for 2, and the series now reads 2–0 to Australia.

It was a bittersweet night for Windies fans though, as Andre Russell, in his final T20I, gave them one last thrill—thumping 36 off 15 with his usual fireworks. But Aussie spinners Zampa and Maxwell were clinical, snatching five wickets between them and stopping the early West Indies momentum cold. Despite Brandon King’s fighting 51, dropped catches and missed chances haunted the home team. As Russell walked off to a standing ovation, it was clear. His sendoff was legendary, but the night belonged to Inglis and Green.

WI vs AUS 2025 2nd T20I – Final Clash at Sabina Park This Year
This match marks the last encounter between West Indies and Australia at Sabina Park for this year. After one Test and the 1st T20I already held at this venue, both teams are now quite familiar with the ground conditions. The 3rd T20I of the series is scheduled to be played at Warner Park, making this 2nd T20I the farewell match at Sabina Park. Frankly speaking, by now the Aussies should have well adapted to the playing conditions here, so the result will likely boil down to which side holds their nerve and commits fewer errors.
WI vs AUS – Sabina Park Weather in July
July in Kingston, Jamaica falls right in the monsoon season, with typically 7 to 13 rainy days in the month. Naturally, this brings high humidity along with average temperatures hovering between 30 to 32 degrees Celsius. It is a sticky and hot climate, something players must cope with. However, given that the Test match and now two T20Is have already taken place at Sabina Park, players from both sides should be acclimatised by now. The bowlers, though, will need to pay extra attention – the sweat can impact grip and control, which could be crucial in the outcome.
WI vs AUS – Sabina Park Crowd The 12th Man for West Indies
The atmosphere at Sabina Park is always something special. Influenced by the vibrant reggae culture of Jamaica, the crowd is famously passionate and vocal, especially when supporting their home team. For any West Indies match here, the stands are packed and buzzing, none more so than the iconic “Party Stand.” With DJs spinning music and fans dancing, chanting, and even beating rhythm sticks, it becomes a festival-like environment.
A former Windies coach once said, “The Sabina Park crowd is our twelfth man,” and rightly so. they lift the team with their energy. But for visiting sides like Australia, this kind of electrifying support can be quite intimidating. Surely, the Aussie boys must have felt the full force of the Caribbean fan power this time around.
WI vs AUS – Final Thoughts
Regardless of who comes out on top in this T20I, one thing is for certain: playing at Sabina Park is a unique experience for any touring team, including Australia. The pressure from the home crowd is no joke; the fans don’t miss a chance to boo every mistake, and the stadium roars every time the West Indies get a breakthrough.
Even though Australia is one of the most dominant teams in world cricket, facing such an atmosphere where it feels like the entire crowd is against you is a character-building moment. Young or experienced, every Aussie player will walk away stronger mentally after surviving the heat, the noise, and the pressure of Sabina Park.

WI vs AUS 2025 2nd T20I – Key Player
West Indies’s Key Players to Watch
- Evin Lewis – Evin Lewis is a highly destructive opening batsman for the West Indies. In the past 12 months, he has played 15 T20I matches, averaging around 34 runs per innings with a strike rate above 145. Against Australia, Lewis has performed impressively, scoring three innings over 40 runs. Notably, in the 2019 T20 series versus Australia, he scored two half-centuries, providing solid starts for his team. His ability to capitalize on Sabina Park’s short boundaries makes him a vital player for quick runs at the top of the order.
- Obed McCoy – Obed McCoy is the West Indies’ leading fast bowler, known for his pace and variations. Over the past year, he has taken 18 wickets in T20Is with an economy rate under 7 runs per over. In matches against Australia, McCoy has successfully curtailed their middle-order scoring, including a four-wicket haul in a 2018 game. Sabina Park’s hard pitch and moderate bounce suit McCoy’s style, allowing him to effectively use his pace and bounce to trouble batsmen.
- Brandon King – King is likely the key player for West Indies against Australia at Sabina Park. In four T20I matches here between 2024 and 2025, he scored 212 runs with an average of 53 and a top score of 79. He has shown great consistency and control while anchoring the innings. At Warner Park, he also scored 132 runs in three innings with an average of 44, showing his ability to adapt and build innings. Although he hasn’t scored a century against Australia yet, he has contributed important runs and stayed calm under pressure. With good form and home conditions, King is well placed to make a strong impact in the powerplay or middle overs and is one of West Indies’ most reliable scorers for the opening match.
- Jason Holder – Jason Holder is a versatile all-rounder, contributing with both bat and ball. He has appeared in over 20 T20Is recently, maintaining a bowling economy around 8 runs per over and delivering key wickets in critical moments. In West Indies vs Australia matches, Holder took 3 wickets in a 2019 T20 game while also adding important runs. The conditions at Sabina Park complement his varied bowling skills and steady batting, providing balance to the team’s lineup.

Australia’s Key Players to Watch
- Matthew Wade – Wade is a seasoned finisher with flair for tight situations. In 2024 and early 2025, he held an average T20I strike rate around 135–140, reliably finishing by hitting ≈25 T20 sixes across formats. Sabina Park’s variable pitch often offers slower-paced death overs where his calm, calculated approach becomes crucial. Against West Indies in T20Is, he averages around 28 with a strike rate above 130, regularly providing late-order impetus. If the match tightens in the final overs, Wade’s experience and composure will be vital in steering Australia to a defendable or chaseable total.
- Nathan Ellis – Ellis has become a go-to death-overs bowler for Australia, maintaining a T20I economy of ~7.5 and consistent wicket-taking in crucial overs. Sabina Park often slows after the powerplay, demanding bowlers who can vary pace and exploit grip—ideal for Ellis’s medium pace cutters. Though he hasn’t featured much at Sabina, venues with similar characteristics have seen him restrict scoring and claim wickets in the 16–20 over window. Against West Indies, where their lower order often accelerates, Ellis’s knack for pinpoint yorkers and subtle variations could choke the run rate and force batting errors.
- Adam Zampa – As Australia’s leading T20I spinner, Zampa boasts 117 wickets in 95 matches at a bowling average near 21 . Sabina Park’s past few matches have been increasingly spin-friendly, especially in the mid overs. Zampa’s sharp leg-spin, flight, and control make him adept at disrupting Windies’ batting flow—he’s consistently claimed key scalps against them in recent series. His prowess in middle overs will be essential to stifling partnerships and preventing scoring bursts. With his track record, Zampa is poised to be the lynchpin in stifling West Indies’ rhythm and creating pressure opportunities.
- Josh Hazlewood – Hazlewood is famed for his accurate line and length and low economy rate under 7 runs per over in recent T20Is. In matches versus West Indies, he took 3 wickets in a 2019 Caribbean series, demonstrating strong defensive bowling. Sabina Park’s conditions favor his disciplined style, helping contain West Indies’ aggressive batsmen, especially during middle and late overs.

WI vs AUS 2025 2nd T20I – Venue History&Analysis: Sabina Park
Stadium Capacity: Approximately 10,000 spectators
Stadium Address: 24 South Camp Road, Kingston, Jamaica, Saint Andrew Parish
Stadium History:
Sabina Park is located in the Kingston area of Jamaica. In its earliest days, the land was actually used as a pasture. It wasn’t until 1890 that the Jamaica Cricket Association purchased most of the land for £750, officially converting it into a sports venue. At the time, £750 was roughly equivalent to around 12 million Indian Rupees today. This move is widely considered one of the best decisions in the region’s cricketing history, as it laid the foundation for Sabina Park to become a sacred ground for cricket in the Caribbean and across the West Indies.
Here’s an interesting anecdote. Since the stadium is located in Kingston, the birthplace of reggae music, whenever matches are played, the fans don’t just show up, they show out. Spectators often bring music to the stadium, playing reggae and drums throughout the match. Eventually, a designated “Party Stand” area was established in the stadium. Though slightly more expensive than regular seating, this section is home to some of the most passionate and animated fans. It even hosts live bands that play during matches, turning the cricket ground into a festive celebration.
Stadium Features:
According to the match preview article for WI vs AUS 2025 1st T20I – West Indies and Australia lock horns at Sabina Park for the first time ever, Sabina Park tends to favor bowlers, particularly fast bowlers. The pitch has minimal grass cover and a dry, hard surface, which offers slight assistance to pace bowlers in terms of speed and bounce. It is not especially spin-friendly, though spinners can extract some help later in the game depending on the wear of the surface. The bounce is generally moderate, allowing some fast bowlers to use short-pitched deliveries (bouncers) effectively.
That said, it is not all in the bowlers’ favor. The boundary at Sabina Park is relatively short, which means batters who quickly adapt to the pace and rhythm of the bowlers can score boundaries (fours and sixes) with relative ease.
Advantage Analysis:
Both Australia and the West Indies are among the strongest cricket teams in the world. While pitch conditions may offer slight tactical advantages, they are unlikely to significantly influence the outcome at this level of competition. If any side holds a real edge, it would be the West Indies because of home ground familiarity and overwhelming crowd support. Players from the West Indies are intimately familiar with the conditions and the majority of the crowd will undoubtedly be rooting for them.
As mentioned earlier, Sabina Park is known for its passionate fans who bring instruments, play music, dance, and cheer relentlessly. This lively environment can put added pressure on the visiting team in this case Australia. Aside from this psychological factor however, both teams are well matched in terms of skills and should compete on fairly equal terms at this venue.
