WI vs AUS 2025 5th T20I Match Results
Updated:Australia beat West Indies by 3 wickets.
| West Indies | Australia |
| 170 (19.4) | 173/7 (17) |
Australia sealed their clean sweep in style, clinching a thrilling 3-wicket win over West Indies to complete a 5-0 T20I whitewash. Big hits were the theme of the day, with Mitchell Owen and Tim David launching seven sixes between them, sending balls flying and hopes of a West Indies comeback crashing. Despite a standout bowling effort from Akeal Hosein (3 for 17), Australia’s batting firepower proved just too much. Aaron Hardie kept his cool in the final stretch, steering his team home with nerves of steel and a calm finish.

Earlier, Australia’s bowlers set the tone, snatching three early wickets to keep the West Indies under pressure. Shimron Hetmyer stood tall with a gritty 52, but just when he looked set to go big, he was dismissed. Ben Dwarshuis did some early damage, while Nathan Ellis and Adam Zampa, celebrating his 100th T20I, closed things off with style. There were hiccups along the way, including Glenn Maxwell’s dropped catch and a duck, but overall, this Aussie side was just too sharp, too powerful, and way too relentless.

WI vs AUS 2025 5th T20I – Which Team Will Take the Edge During the PowerPlay?
In our previous article, WI vs AUS 2025 4th T20I – Rovman Powell faces off against Adam Zampa in a crucial battle, we discussed the key middle-over matchup between Powell and Zampa. However, both players come into play later in the innings. So now, let us shift focus to the batters who will be in action during the PowerPlay.
WI vs AUS – Spotlight on PowerPlay Specialists
Australia’s decision to rest several key players has placed extra focus on the PowerPlay. Travis Head, one of their most experienced openers since David Warner’s retirement, is not available for this series. Along with two other senior players returning home after the Test matches, this suggests a clear intent to give younger players valuable exposure.

In this context, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matthew Short are expected to open the innings. Though relatively new to international cricket, both have shown glimpses of brilliance. Short impressed in his second T20I in 2023 by scoring 66 off just 30 balls against South Africa. Fraser-McGurk made his T20I debut in 2024 and notched his maiden fifty against England on September 13, becoming the second youngest Australian to do so. While consistency may be a concern, their talent is evident. Australia are likely to rely on Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, and Tim David from No. 3 onward to provide stability if early wickets fall.

For West Indies, Evin Lewis and Brandon King appear to be the obvious choices for opening, given their form and experience. With King fully recovered from last year’s injury, their pairing looks solid. At No. 3, Shai Hope could offer the steadiness needed to hold the innings together, especially if early wickets fall. Johnson Charles, with his aggressive style, may be better suited for the No. 4 position, where he can attack freely and complement hitters like Hetmyer and Powell in the middle overs.

WI vs AUS 2025 5th T20I – Venue History&Analysis: Warner Park
Stadium Capacity: Approximately 10,000 spectators
Stadium Address: Warner Park Sporting Complex, Victoria Road, Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis, KN0104
About the Stadium:
Warner Park is not only a regular venue for international matches but also one of the main grounds for the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). It holds the record for the most sixes hit in CPL history. According to the records, Warner Park has hosted a total of 90 CPL matches and witnessed 1,451 sixes. This works out to an average of 16.1 sixes per match. Compared to other famous stadiums like Kensington Oval and Queen’s Park Oval, where the average number of sixes per game is about 13 to 14, Warner Park stands out with a significantly higher number.

The record for the most sixes in a single CPL match was also set here. On 4th September 2024, during the match between GAW and SKNP, both teams combined to hit 42 sixes, which equals the highest number of sixes ever hit in any men’s T20 league, tying with the Indian Premier League (IPL).

In that game, GAW smashed 23 sixes while SKNP managed 19. GAW finally won the match scoring 266/7, beating SKNP who were all out for 226. Shimron Hetmyer from GAW, who is a key middle-order batsman for the West Indies T20I team, scored 91 runs in that match, including 11 sixes, and was declared the Most Valuable Player (MVP). Although his performance was outstanding, he just missed breaking Andre Russell’s CPL record of 13 sixes by a single player in one match.
