WI vs BAN 2024 1st ODI – Sherfane Rutherford’s Explosive 113 Guides WI to Series Lead
West Indies secured a convincing win over Bangladesh in the 1st ODI, thanks to a brilliant knock of 113 off 80 balls by Sherfane Rutherford. His explosive innings, featuring eight sixes and seven fours, played a crucial role in helping the hosts chase down the target with 14 balls to spare. Although Rutherford was dismissed in the 47th over with just seven runs remaining, West Indies comfortably reached 295 for 5 to take a 1–0 lead in the series. But how did the partnership between Rutherford and Hope become the turning point of the game? Let’s dive in and find out!

Rutherford-Hope Partnership Turns the Tide in Thrilling Chase
It all came down to West Indies being 146 for 3 in the 29th over while chasing 295. Early wickets had slowed the momentum after Brandon King and Alick Athanaze fell cheaply. Then Rutherford shifted gears after reaching his fifty, smashing eight sixes, while Hope anchored the innings with steady placement. Together, they added 99 runs off 84 balls for the fourth wicket, transforming the chase from a tense situation into a comfortable one.

The partnership came to an end when Hope was dismissed for 86 off 88 balls after edging behind while attempting a drive. The score at that stage was 245 for 4 in the 42nd over. Rutherford carried on for a while, bringing up his maiden ODI century in 77 balls before getting out for 113 off 80. In the end Justin Greaves remained unbeaten on 41 off 31 balls and finished the chase with some aggressive strokes.

WI vs BAN 2024 1st ODI – Tanzid Hasan & Mehidy Hasan Shine but Late Partnership Falls Short
In Bangladesh’s innings, although they lost the match and could not extend their 12‑match ODI winning streak against West Indies, their top and middle order showed promise. Tanzid Hasan scored a brisk 60 off 60 balls with six fours and three sixes, giving them an aggressive start in the Powerplay, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz contributed 74 off 101 balls. However, it was unfortunate that the late 98‑run partnership between Mahmudullah and Jaker Ali was not strong enough, which eventually led to their defeat in this match.

WI vs BAN 2024 1st ODI – West Indies End Losing Streak Against Bangladesh Ahead of Decisive Second ODI
West Indies broke an 11-match ODI losing streak against Bangladesh with this win. West Indies will look to seal the series with another strong batting show from Sherfane Rutherford and Shai Hope, while Bangladesh will aim for early wickets and sharper fielding to turn momentum their way. The 2nd ODI will be crucial as Bangladesh must win to keep the series alive.

WI vs BAN 2024 1st ODI – Venue History&Analysis: Warner Park
Stadium Capacity: Around 8,000 spectators.
Stadium Address: Warner Park Sporting Complex, Lozac Road, Basseterre, St Kitts, St Kitts and Nevis.
About the Stadium:
Warner Park was established in the early 1980s. The complex has served as a central sporting venue in the Caribbean for decades, hosting local, regional and international cricket matches. The first ODI played at Warner Park was between West Indies and India on 12 April 2002. This tour was significant as it helped both teams rebuild and prepare for upcoming global tournaments, especially the 2003 Cricket World Cup.

In this first ODI match, both sides were experimenting with younger players to strengthen their squads. For the West Indies, who were once unbeatable during the 1970s and 1980s, the situation had changed by the mid-1990s as most of their great players had either retired or were past their prime, leaving a big gap in talent and experience. The team began losing regularly. By 2002, West Indies were in the process of rebuilding with new talents to restore pride and competitiveness. However, their young players displayed inconsistent performances resulted in a losing outcome.
