WI vs BAN 2024 2nd ODI – Brandon King’s 82 Leads West Indies to Victory Over Bangladesh and Series Win
West Indies defeated Bangladesh by 7 wickets to clinch the series in the second ODI. After bowling Bangladesh out for 227, the hosts chased down the target with 79 balls remaining. Brandon King scored 82 off 76 balls, marking his seventh ODI half-century. He shared crucial partnerships with Evin Lewis and Keacy Carty to set up the platform. Later, Hope and Rutherford steered the team home comfortably. For Bangladesh, this was a must-win contest, but their batting collapse proved costly. In the next part, I will explain how West Indies executed their plans brilliantly and where Bangladesh faltered.

WI vs BAN 2024 2nd ODI – West Indies Win Series Behind Seales’ 4 Wickets and King’s 82
Jayden Seales bowled 9 overs, including 1 maiden, conceding just 22 runs and taking 4 wickets with an impressive economy rate of 2.44. His figures show how extremely restrictive he was during the Powerplay and middle overs. Let’s take a look at top-quality single-match ODI bowling performances and see how Seales’s figures stack up:
| Bowler | Figures | Economy |
| Chaminda Vaas | 8-8-19-6 | 2.38 |
| Joel Garner | 8-3-11-6 | 1.38 |
| Glenn McGrath | 10-3-15-7 | 1.5 |
| Jayden Seales | 9-1-22-4 | 2.44 |
He dismissed Bangladesh’s key top-order batters early, leaving them struggling at 30 for 3 and never allowing them to build any momentum. Seales also made great use of the coastal breeze at Warner Park, which provided light swing in the first 10 overs, helping him trouble the batters even more.

Brandon King and Evin Lewis Build Strong Partnerships to Guide West Indies in Chase
King and Lewis opened the innings for West Indies with a target of 228 to chase. The pair put together a solid partnership of 109 runs, laying a strong foundation for the chase. After Lewis got out, King and Carty added a crucial partnership of around 60 runs. These partnerships eased the pressure on the middle order and brought the team comfortably close to the target. All credit goes to King for playing the anchor’s role, balancing aggression and caution, especially on the slow Warner Park pitch.

Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford Seal Victory for West Indies After King’s Dismissal
After Nahid Rana dismissed King with a yorker, the last match-winning duo, Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford, took on the simple task of batting calmly and ensuring there was no late collapse. Shai Hope played the anchor’s role, steadying the innings, while Sherfane Rutherford finished the game in style by hitting the winning six to seal the victory.

WI vs BAN 2024 2nd ODI – Warner Park Pitch Causes Trouble as Bangladesh Collapse
Warner Park’s pitch starts slow and low but still offers early movement for pacers. Bangladesh failed to adjust their tempo as they played as if the conditions were flat, misjudging the bounce and pace. Because of this, they could not resist Jayden Seales’ spell, which led to a collapse. A solid 92-run partnership between Mahmudullah, who scored 62 off 92 balls, and Tanzid Hasan, who made 46 off 33 balls, only rescued them from 115 for seven.

Bangladesh Lose Again After Failing to Change Strategy
With strong batting and disciplined bowling, the hosts sealed the series in emphatic fashion. Bangladesh lose early wickets become a patten. The only positive was Mahmudullah’s fightback, but it wasn’t enough. Looking at this performance, it seems difficult for Bangladesh to stage a comeback in the next ODI. However, if they do manage to win, the upcoming T20I series could turn out to be far more competitive, as the Tigers are better suited to the shorter format.

WI vs BAN 2024 2nd ODI – Venue History&Analysis: Warner Park
Stadium Capacity: Around 8,000 spectators.
Stadium Address: Warner Park Sporting Complex, Lozac Road, Basseterre, St Kitts, St Kitts and Nevis.
About the Stadium:
December comes in the dry season at St Kitts, so the chances of rain are much lower compared to the hurricane months. Even so, the coastal breeze, usually around 10 to 20 kilometres per hour, can influence swing and also affect lofted shots. The pitch here is known for its low bounce and slow nature, which makes it difficult for batters to play big pull shots. For spinners, however, it is almost like a paradise, as the surface offers grip and turn. Warner Park has witnessed one truly remarkable performance under such conditions.

In 2016, South African spinner Imran Tahir produced the best ODI figures ever seen at Warner Park, claiming 7 wickets for 45 runs and breaking the backbone of the West Indies batting line-up. In this match, the pitch became slower during the middle overs, and Tahir used it to perfection with his clever flight, sharp turn and subtle variations, putting on a fine exhibition of how to read and exploit conditions to full advantage.
