BAN vs WI 2025 1st ODI – Match Result
Updated:Bangladesh beat West Indies by 74 runs.
| Bangladesh | West Indies |
| 207 (49.4) | 133 (39) |
Bangladesh kicked off their series in style with a commanding 74-run win over the West Indies in Dhaka, and boy, was it Rishad Hossain’s day to shine! After a sluggish start with the bat, where Towhid Hridoy’s steady 51 and debutant Mahidul Islam’s gritty 46 helped them crawl to 207, it was Rishad who lit the game up. He cracked a quickfire 26 off just 16 balls to boost the total, but that was just the warm-up. With the ball, he went full wizard mode, snatching 6 for 35, including the Windies’ first five wickets, and pretty much derailed their entire chase.

The West Indies actually started pretty strong with Brandon King and Alick Athanaze putting up 51 runs for the opening stand. But then, boom! Rishad spun his magic and the collapse began. King top-scored with 44, but no one else could really handle the pressure. From the 12th over on, it was a Bangladesh spin show, with Mehidy and Tanvir Islam chipping in too. Rishad’s brilliance not only secured the win but also etched his name in the record books as Bangladesh’s first legspinner to take a five-for in ODIs. Talk about a breakout performance!

BAN vs WI 2025 1st ODI – Similar Recent Forms, but Not Judge the Book by its Cover
Entering the first game, Bangladesh and West Indies are not in the good form actually. With the close ranking in international ODI, Bangladesh in 8 and West Indies in 7, their recent games results are also close, former lost their 3 out of 4 and latter lost 3 out of 5. Here comes the twist, West Indies won over Pakistan in the last 2 ODI matches who stand at 5 and was not easy to overcome, West Indies showed their true strength against the contender. Bangladesh? They won one game over Sri Lanka by 16 runs, but lost the other two all over 70 runs. Next look at the history itself to tell more true story.
BAN vs WI – Most Recent Head to Head Record
| ODI Matches |
| West Indies won by 4 wickets |
| West Indies won by 7 wickets |
| West Indies won by 5 wickets |
| Bangladesh won by 4 wickets |
| Bangladesh won by 9 wickets |
Seems like a tie up, but West Indies dominate more recently.
BAN vs WI – Main Forces Still There?
To check out the recent form of the West Indies, a stunning loss to Nepal in a T20I highlights might stink a bit. Adding to the concerns, pace spearhead Alzarri Joseph was ruled out of the India Tests with a back injury, further weakening their attack. Yet, despite the setbacks, the team is not entirely broken. With Shai Hope anchoring the batting, and spinners like Gudakesh Motie, Akeal Hosein, and Roston Chase still in rhythm, West Indies retain enough firepower to prove they can still get it right when it matters.

BAN vs WI – Tigers’ Got Tired?
Bangladesh enter with just two wins in their last eleven ODIs, and doubts remain about their ability to handle pressure in Mirpur. Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s spin leadership, Shanto and Hridoy’s batting promise, and Mustafizur Rahman’s cutters are valuable, but inconsistency has often undone their efforts. Even with Mahmudullah’s experience in the middle order, the Tigers appear fragile, and unless their key players click together, they are more likely to falter against the challenge in this series.

BAN vs WI – Different Intentions but Same Goal
As the first ODI unfolds in Mirpur, both Bangladesh and West Indies arrive with shaky form, yet the balance tilts slightly toward the visitors. West Indies have shown they can step up against stronger opponents, while Bangladesh’s recent heavy defeats expose lingering gaps in consistency. With the rankings close, the contest may look even on paper, but the execution on the field is likely to separate the sides. For Bangladesh, it is survival, but for West Indies, it is an opportunity to prove their resilience and strike first in the series.

BAN vs WI 2025 1st ODI – Venue History&Analysis: Shere Bangla National Stadium
Stadium Capacity: Around 25,000 spectators
Stadium Address: Mirpur, Dhaka, Bangladesh
About the Stadium:
Opened in 2006, Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka quickly replaced the old Bangabandhu Stadium as the new home of cricket in Bangladesh. With a capacity of about 25,000, it has become the stage for almost every major international match the country hosts. The ground’s surface is known for being slow and spin-friendly, where first-innings scores often hover around 220-240, making smart batting and patient bowling the keys to success.

The venue was named after A.K. Fazlul Huq, known as Sher-e-Bangla, Tiger of Bengal, a respected leader in Bengal’s history. Since its first ODI in 2006, it has hosted Tests, ODIs, T20Is, and countless Bangladesh Premier League games. Memorable series wins against top teams, such as victories over India, South Africa, and England in ODIs, have turned Mirpur into a fortress for the Tigers. The ground is not just a stadium but also the headquarters of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, cementing its role at the center of the country’s cricket.
