After five intriguing days in Galle, the first Test between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh ended in a hard-fought draw, but not without a sprinkle of “what if?” drama. Bangladesh had piled on runs, thanks to twin tons from the in-form Najmul Hossain Shanto, and dangled a tricky target of 296 in 37 overs after a rain-delayed session. Sri Lanka, though, played it safe. They lost some quick wickets, including big names like Mathews and Chandimal to a fiery Taijul Islam, but Kamindu Mendis and Dhananjaya de Silva shut shop just in time.

The post-match buzz? All about whether Bangladesh waited a little too long to declare. Sure, Shanto’s second century was special, only the third time a Bangladeshi batter has done that in one Test, but with the pitch turning square and bowlers like Taijul and Nayeem on fire, those extra 13 overs might’ve made all the difference. Still, both teams walk away with positives, and maybe, just maybe, a few lingering regrets.

SL vs BAN 1st Test Match:Day 4
Stumps:Bangladesh lead by 187 runs.
| Bangladesh | Sri Lanka |
| 495&177/3 | 485 |
Day four in Galle was like a seesaw, back and forth, full of drama, and just when one team looked in control, the other yanked it back. Bangladesh wrapped up Sri Lanka’s innings just 10 runs short of their own mammoth 495, thanks to a sparkling five-for from Nayeem Hasan, who bowled like a man possessed. Kamindu Mendis looked set for a ton, but Nayeem had other plans, ending the innings with a flourish and some seriously sharp turn. The guy dropped to his knees afterward — and rightly so. That spell was pure gold.

Now, Bangladesh are cruising (well, cautiously cruising) at 177 for 3, with Shanto looking classy on 56 and Shadman chipping in a confident 76. They’re ahead by 187 and probably dreaming of a 300-run cushion to launch a final-day ambush. But let’s not forget, this is Galle. One wicket can trigger a domino effect. The pitch is worn, spinners are licking their lips, and day five could flip everything on its head. Hold on, this one’s not done yet.

SL vs BAN 1st Test Match:Day 3
Stumps:Sri Lanka trail by 127 runs.
| Bangladesh | Sri Lanka |
| 495 | 368/4 (93) |
Sri Lanka came out swinging on Day 3, turning what looked like a mountain of a Bangladesh total into more of a manageable hill. Chasing down that hefty 495, they cruised to 368 for 4 by stumps, slicing the deficit to just 127. The star of the show? Pathum Nissanka, who lit up Galle with a career-best 187. It was his first Test ton at home, and he made every ball count until an evil little inducker from Hasan Mahmud crashed his double-ton dreams late in the day.

But even with Nissanka back in the pavilion, Sri Lanka never took their foot off the gas. Partnerships kept ticking along—Chandimal notched a tidy 54, Mathews chipped in too, and Dhananjaya and Kamindu closed things out with a quickfire 37-run blitz. Bangladesh shared the wickets around, but with three bowlers going at over 4 an over, it wasn’t exactly a day they’ll want to relive. If this batting form keeps up, Sri Lanka might just turn the tables entirely, and make Bangladesh sweat it out on Day 5.

SL vs BAN 1st Test Match:Day 2
Stumps:Bangladesh chose to bat.
| Bangladesh |
| 484/9 (151) |
Bangladesh came out swinging on Day 2 in Galle, riding high on a trio of standout knocks — Mushfiqur Rahim’s majestic 163, Shanto’s classy 148, and Litton Das’ fluent 90. At 413 for 4, they looked ready to bat Sri Lanka out of the game. But then came the rain… and with it, a whole new vibe. After a two-hour break, the pitch freshened up, and Sri Lanka pounced. Five wickets tumbled for just 61 runs as Milan Rathnayake and Asitha Fernando turned spoilers, breaking through what once looked like an unbreakable wall.

Milan, who had been working hard all day, finally found his groove post-rain, slicing through the tail with skill and swing. Asitha chipped in too, dismantling both major partnerships and changing the script entirely. Litton’s flashy strokes eventually met their match, and what could’ve been a 600+ total fizzled to 484 for 9 at stumps. From domination to desperation in just one session, Test cricket, you unpredictable beauty!

SL vs BAN 1st Test Match:Day 1
Stumps:Bangladesh chose to bat.

| 292/3 (90) |
Bangladesh had a rocky start on Day 1 in Galle, but boy, did they flip the script fast! After losing three quick wickets, it was Shanto and Mushfiqur who stole the spotlight. The pair put on a masterclass, cruising to an unbeaten 247-run stand. Shanto led the charge with a fiery 136*, while Mushfiqur was cool and classy with his 105*. Sri Lanka’s debutant spinner Tharindu grabbed a couple of early wickets, but once these two settled in, it was one-way traffic.

Despite a lively first hour for the hosts, the day turned into a batting parade for Bangladesh. Shanto in particular made it his mission to unsettle Tharindu, smashing 10 of his 15 boundaries off the spinner. With the pitch offering little for the bowlers and the outfield lightning fast, the batters had a field day. Even though Sri Lanka tried to tighten things up post-lunch, the Bangladeshi duo stayed composed and kept the scoreboard ticking. All in all, a dream day for Bangladesh—and a long one for the Lankan bowlers.

SL vs BAN 2025 1st Test: Wishing Bangladesh the best of luck!
Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will be playing a Test series starting from June 17th. This Bangladesh tour of Sri Lanka will consist of two Test matches, with the first one being held at the historic Galle International Stadium. The two teams have faced each other five times at this ground, which has a history of nearly 150 years. Apart from the match in 2007, which was canceled due to rain, Sri Lanka has won all the other four encounters. Sri Lanka has maintained an unbeaten record against Bangladesh at Galle International Stadium in Test cricket.
While Bangladesh’s team has been improving in recent years, their performance in Tests still remains a bit inconsistent. So, realistically speaking, Bangladesh might face a tough challenge in this series. But hey, we can still watch the match with a hopeful and optimistic mindset. Who knows? This might just be the game where Bangladesh manages to break their losing streak and get their first-ever win over Sri Lanka in a Test match! Fingers crossed!

Sri Lanka’s Key Players to Watch
- Prabath Jayasuriya – Galle’s dry, turning pitches make him the biggest threat. He averages under 25 here and can exploit Bangladesh’s weakness against quality spin. His ability to bowl long spells with tight control makes him a match-winner.
- Dhananjaya de Silva – A technically sound batter who can anchor the innings and chip in with crucial off-spin. His experience in Galle (where he averages 45+ with the bat) makes him vital against Bangladesh’s spinners.
- Dimuth Karunaratne – A proven leader and consistent run-scorer in home Tests. His patience against spin and ability to bat long will set the tone for SL’s innings.
- Dilshan Madushanka – While Galle favors spin, his swing and reverse-swing skills can trouble Bangladesh’s top order early on, especially under overcast conditions.

Bangladesh’s Key Players to Watch
- Shakib Al Hasan – The most experienced player in the squad. His left-arm spin and ability to score gritty runs make him crucial. If he fires, Bangladesh can control the game.
- Mehidy Hasan Miraz (Off-Spinner) – A consistent performer in Tests, his ability to extract turn and bounce will trouble Sri Lanka’s middle order. He’s also handy with the bat.
- Taijul Islam – Galle’s conditions suit his style—accurate, relentless, and able to exploit rough patches. He could be Bangladesh’s main wicket-taker.
- Najmul Hossain Shanto – Bangladesh’s best Test batter in recent years. If he can handle SL’s spinners, he’ll be key in setting up a big total.

SL vs BAN 2025 1st Test – Venue: Galle International Stadium
Stadium Capacity: Approximately 35,000 spectators
Stadium Address: Colombo Main Rd, Galle 80000, Sri Lanka
Stadium Features: Galle International Stadium is located in Galle, Sri Lanka, and is one of the most picturesque cricket stadiums. Not only is it situated next to the historic Galle Fort, but it is also surrounded by the sea on three sides. As a result, the stadium has gained international recognition after hosting international matches. However, this stadium, located next to Galle Fort, was originally built as a horse racing track in 1876. It wasn’t until 1892 that it began hosting cricket matches, and it was officially recognized as a cricket ground in 1927. The first international match was held in 1984, and Test matches were not held until 1998. Despite being a stadium with nearly 150 years of history, surrounded by the sea on three sides and the ancient Galle Fort, attracting many tourists and cricket fans, the stadium suffered devastating damage in 2004 due to the Indian Ocean tsunami. Water levels even reached a height of 30 meters. Fortunately, with international support, the stadium was rebuilt and reopened in 2007.
