Dewald Brevis lit up Darwin with a jaw-dropping 125*, the highest T20I score by a South African as he basically turned the match into his own personal highlight reel. Smashing 12 fours and 8 sixes, Brevis went from stylish to savage in no time, bringing up his century in just 41 balls. He had Australia chasing leather all over the park, especially during one brutal over off Glenn Maxwell that cost 24 runs. With Brevis leading the charge, South Africa stacked up 218 for 7, setting a steep target and leveling the series 1-1.

Australia gave it a decent crack but never quite caught up. Tim David tried to keep them afloat with a brisk 50, including one monster six that flew out of the stadium. But it wasn’t enough, as Corbin Bosch and young gun Kwena Maphaka took three wickets each to dismantle the Aussie chase. The hosts folded for 165, falling 53 runs short in what turned out to be South Africa’s biggest-ever T20I win over Australia. Now, all eyes are on the decider in Cairns this Saturday!

AUS vs SA 2025 2nd T20I – The Pitch Favors Fast Bowlers, and the Boundaries are Quite Large.
At the Marrara Cricket Ground, many might not know much about it because there have been only a few international games here. But, without a doubt, this will likely be a paradise for fast bowlers, as the pitch conditions are quite favorable for pace.

AUS vs SA – A Fast Bowler’s Paradise
Why is it a fast bowler’s paradise? The pitch conditions at Marrara Cricket Ground, especially during the dry season, become hard and dry, increasing bounce and speed. While this might not seem ideal for fast bowlers, the boundary distances of 65-70 meters make it challenging for batsmen. They need quick reactions and enough power to clear those long boundaries, or they’ll only get singles or doubles. Plus, the unpredictable bounce often takes the ball out of their hitting zone, making it difficult for explosive batsmen and technically sound players to clear the boundary. This balance of bounce, boundary distance, and unpredictability is what makes it a fast bowler’s paradise.

AUS vs SA – Which fast bowlers are likely to feature for both teams?
Since the pitch favors fast bowlers, let’s look at the fast bowling options for both teams. For Australia, Nathan Ellis and Ben Dwarshuis are likely to be the main pacers. Both are in excellent form, with Ellis boasting a strike rate of 13.4 and an average of 17.31, while Dwarshuis has figures of 26.6 and 24.11. For South Africa, Lungi Ngidi is the only confirmed fast bowler, with a strike rate of 13.9 and an average of 21.07. Other South African pacers either have poor stats or are too young, though a surprise performer is always possible. But overall, Australia holds the advantage with Ellis and Dwarshuis, who are top-class pacers and will pose a serious threat.

AUS vs SA 2025 2nd T20I – Venue History&Analysis: Marrara Cricket Ground
Stadium Capacity: Around 5,000 spectators
Stadium Address: Marrara Cricket Ground, Marrara, Darwin, NT 0812, Australia
About the Stadium:
The Marrara Cricket Ground has hosted very few international matches, with only 6 games played since 2003. Because of this, it’s not a very well-known venue. During the dry season from May to October, the pitch tends to become dry, which causes the ball to bounce higher and more erratically. This makes it advantageous for fast bowlers, as there is less impact on the speed of the ball. As a result, the demands on the batsmen increase.

Additionally, the boundaries at Marrara Cricket Ground are relatively long, ranging from 65 to 70 meters. Given these conditions-longer boundaries and a pitch that benefits fast bowlers-the batsmen are further challenged. Therefore, this ground is more suited to technical batsmen, and if matches are played here, the average score is likely to be on the lower side.
