England kicked off their summer with a bang, thrashing Zimbabwe by an innings and 45 runs at Trent Bridge—and wrapping it up inside! Shoaib Bashir stole the show with a sizzling 6-for in the second innings, becoming England’s youngest to notch four Test five-fors. Despite a solid fightback from Sean Williams (88) and Sikandar Raza (60), Zimbabwe fell just short of forcing England to bat again. Their resistance had flashes of brilliance, but Bashir and Ben Stokes kept applying the pressure, sealing a tidy early victory.

The visitors may have lost, but they earned plenty of respect. Williams cracked cover drives for fun, Raza played with flair, and Ben Curran battled hard. Stokes made his bowling comeback count, even pulling off a highlight-reel catch assist with Brook. Though Zimbabwe couldn’t hold off England’s spin trap, the crowd loved their energy, and the team left to warm applause.

England flexed their cricketing muscles on Day 2 at Trent Bridge, tightening their grip on the one-off Test against Zimbabwe. After racking up a massive 565/6, they wrapped up Zimbabwe’s first innings for 265 despite a record-breaking 139 from Brian Bennett — the fastest Test century by a Zimbabwean. England wasted no time enforcing the follow-on, and by stumps, they were in complete control with a lead of 270 runs. It wasn’t all one-way traffic though — Bennett gave the crowd plenty to cheer about, smashing boundaries with flair and showing no fear, even as wickets tumbled around him.

Earlier in the day, England’s batters made merry. Harry Brook came out swinging, launching sixes and cracking fours like he was in a T20, while Ollie Pope added a couple more runs before getting caught behind. Ben Stokes couldn’t resist going big but miscued one straight to Ben Curran. After the declaration, debutant Sam Cook bagged his first Test wicket, and while Zimbabwe showed flashes of fight — with Ervine and Bennett putting up a good show — England’s bowlers kept chipping away. With Zimbabwe ending Day 2 at 30/2 in their second innings.

England came out swinging on Day 1 at Trent Bridge, putting on a run-fest that Zimbabwe won’t forget anytime soon. Zak Crawley broke his century drought in style, Ben Duckett dazzled with a home-ground ton at a run-a-ball pace, and Ollie Pope? He just kept the fireworks going, cruising to 169* by stumps. The trio’s batting blitz pushed England to a jaw-dropping 498 for 3—the highest first-day total in a Test at home since, well, forever.

Zimbabwe, playing a Test on English soil for the first time in over two decades, were clearly out of their depth. Injuries didn’t help, especially with Ngarava hobbling off early. Despite some spirited overs from Muzarabani and a few hopeful appeals, England’s top order batted with the kind of confidence that made it look like a practice match. The ball flew to the ropes, the scoreboard spun, and by the end of the day, it felt like England had already taken control of the Test.
