IND vs AUS 2024 2nd Test – Pace Duo Rattles India, Head Powers Australia
Mitchell Starc took six wickets for 48 runs in just 14.1 overs in the first innings. Truly a remarkable display of skill and determination! His combination of extreme pace, and deadly yorkers troubled the top-order batters, causing edges and early dismissals. He maintained relentless pressure throughout his spell, making it difficult for India to settle or rotate the strike. His crucial breakthrough wickets helped Australia dominate the match from the very beginning.

In the second innings, it was captain Pat Cummins who took charge. He claimed five wickets for just 57 runs, sealing India’s collapse and setting up Australia’s easy ten-wicket win. Despite his raw pace, he managed to generate seam movement along with bounce and accuracy. He consistently targeted the top of off-stump, forcing Indian batters into false shots. His discipline and relentless pressure removed key players like Rahul and Rohit early, breaking the backbone of India’s batting lineup.

Travis Head’s Powerful 140 Sends Australia on Top
Travis Head lit up the innings with a brilliant 140-run masterclass. He helped Australia recover from early trouble and reached his fastest pink-ball century in just 111 balls, breaking his own record. He changed the rhythm of the game with his fearless yet calculated counterattack, turning what was a balanced Test into a one-sided contest. His outstanding performance is what made him the Player of the Match. Interestingly, all three fastest pink-ball Test centuries now belong to Head.

IND vs AUS 2024 2nd Test – India’s Cold Feet in the Heat of Adelaide
In the previous match, India had only one day and 46 overs to warm up because the first day was washed out by rain. They won that warm-up game, but were not able to carry that momentum into the second Test. Even though India had a promising young batter Nitish Kumar Reddy, who had top-scored in three of his first four Test innings, usually scoring in the low 40s. The team gave their best effort, but Mitchell Starc’s outstanding performance changed everything. Every time Indian batters tried to settle or build a partnership, Australia broke through. Because of this pressure, India ended up scoring low totals in both innings.

India’s Road to Recovery: What Needs to Change?
India’s top order continues to struggle with early collapses. Rahul, Gill, and Jaiswal got starts but failed to convert them into big scores. Promoting Reddy earlier could add stability. Starc and Cummins bowl expertly just outside off-stump, tempting batters to play and edge. To counter this, batters should leave those deliveries early and play late and close to the body, forcing bowlers to change tactics. Fielding must also improve, as missed chances allowed Australia to dominate. India still have a good chance to bounce back. Consistency, patience, and tactical discipline will be key in the next Test.

IND vs AUS 2024 2nd Test – Venue History&Analysis: Adelaide Oval
Stadium Capacity: Around 53,500 spectators.
Stadium Address: War Memorial Drive, North Adelaide, SA 5006.
About the Stadium:
Long before colonisation, the area belonged to the ancestral lands of the Kaurna people, who are the traditional custodians of the Adelaide Plains. This stadium officially opened in 1873 and is considered one of the oldest major stadiums in the world. The 1884 Test match between Australia and England at Adelaide Oval was filled with many firsts and a lot of drama. It was not only the first-ever Test played at Adelaide Oval but also marked one of the early chapters in what later became the legendary Ashes rivalry. During those times, players wore no helmets, no pads below the knee, and batsmen played in white flannel trousers and boater hats.

Adelaide has a Mediterranean climate, During November to January, conditions tend to be dry and sunny, which helps the pitch stay consistent. Fast bowlers can exploit good bounce and pace early on. What’s particularly noteworthy is that certain sections of the ground feature longer straight boundaries and wide arcs, making it one of the more expansive grounds in Australian cricket. Shots that would clear the ropes for sixes at smaller venues often fall short here, resulting in catches instead. Unlike some coastal stadiums, Adelaide Oval provides little wind assistance. You cannot depend on breezes to help carry the ball over the boundary. Consequently, big hitting demands both power and precise timing.
