Stumps:Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by an innings and 78 runs.

Sri Lanka wasted no time on Day 4, needing less than half an hour to wipe out Bangladesh’s tail and cruise to a massive win by an innings and 78 runs. The star of the show? Prabath Jayasuriya, who tore through the visitors with 5 for 56, grabbing his 12th Test five-wicket haul. Kusal Mendis, shoulder niggle and all, was sharp behind the stumps with two slick dismissals that helped seal the deal. Bangladesh barely lasted 34 deliveries in the morning before folding completely—ouch.

The match, and the series, firmly belonged to Sri Lanka. Pathum Nissanka’s classy 158 not only set things up but also earned him both the Player of the Match and Player of the Series titles—well deserved after his earlier 187 too! With this, Sri Lanka takes the series 1-0 and pockets some sweet World Test Championship points. Bangladesh, meanwhile, will be rethinking that forgettable first innings and some loose bowling that let the hosts dominate from the get-go.

Stumps:Bangladesh trail by 96 runs.

Sri Lanka is just four wickets away from sealing the deal in Colombo, and Bangladesh is hanging by a thread—still 96 runs behind despite having batted twice! The day started with a glimmer of hope for the visitors as Taijul Islam picked up a well-earned five-for, and they even got a few early wickets. But Sri Lanka’s tail wagged enough to take their first-innings lead to 211, thanks to some gritty knocks from Kusal and co. That proved more than handy once the spinners took over.

After tea, it was spin city. Jayasuriya wasted no time, striking right after the break, while Dhananjaya de Silva turned in a little magic of his own. Bangladesh’s batters were trapped, beaten, and bamboozled—Shanto, Mominul, and even Mushfiqur couldn’t resist the spin assault. And just like that, the hosts are in full control. Unless something miraculous happens on day four, this one’s heading Sri Lanka’s way.

SL vs BAN 2nd Test Match:Day 2
Stumps:Sri Lanka lead by 43 runs.
| Bangladesh | Sri Lanka |
| 247 | 290/2 (78) |
Day two belonged to Sri Lanka, plain and simple. After wrapping up Bangladesh’s innings for 247 early in the morning, the Lankan batters flipped the script with flair. Pathum Nissanka was in beast mode, smashing an unbeaten 146 and anchoring a 194-run stand with Chandimal, who was heartbreakingly dismissed for 93 while trying a cheeky reverse sweep. The duo looked like they were batting on a different pitch altogether, making the Bangladesh bowlers toil under the Colombo sun.

The day had its share of drama, from Nissanka taking a couple of nasty blows on the helmet to nightwatchman Jayasuriya nervously surviving a late LBW scare. Still, Sri Lanka walked off stumps with a comfy 43-run lead and all the momentum. Bangladesh had their moments, especially when Mehidy and Taijul tightened things up post-lunch, but their inconsistent bowling let Sri Lanka off the hook. With Nissanka still out there, don’t be surprised if Sri Lanka bat big tomorrow!

SL vs BAN 2nd Test Match:Day 1
Stumps:Bangladesh chose to bat.
| Bangladesh |
| 220/8 (71) |
Day one of the second Test in Colombo was a rollercoaster — but mostly for Bangladesh, and not in a good way. They won the toss, hoped the pitch would be a batting paradise, and ended the day at a shaky 220 for 8. Despite a string of missed chances (five dropped catches and a blown run-out), Sri Lanka’s bowlers didn’t let up. Dinusha, on debut, bowled three maidens in a row and picked up two key wickets, while the Fernandos, Vishwa and Asitha grabbed a couple each. Bangladesh had some decent starts, but no one stuck around long enough to make them count.

Mushfiqur and Litton strung together a promising 67-run stand, but both fell to Dinusha in similar fashion — risky shots, punished hard. Shadman top-scored with 46 before falling just short of a half-century, and though six batters crossed 20, none went on. Rain interrupted play post-lunch, but Sri Lanka stayed focused, maintained tight lines, and made Bangladesh work for every run. If the pitch does get easier, Bangladesh might kick themselves for not cashing in early.

SL vs BAN 2025 2nd Test: Every match is a chance to witness a miracle and be part of history!
The second Test match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh is shifting to the SSC Cricket Ground. But even here, Bangladesh has never managed to get the better of Sri Lanka. The two sides have faced each other four times at this venue, Sri Lanka has won three of those, and the other one ended in a draw. Clearly, Bangladesh still has some way to go when it comes to Test cricket development.
But like we said in the first match preview, it’s not all about winning or losing, yaar. It’s about gaining experience and building the team. Every small improvement is a big win in itself! Still, I can’t help but wonder—can Bangladesh finally pull it off this time? Who knows, I might just be witnessing a historic first win for Bangladesh at the SSC!

Sri Lanka’s Key Players to Watch
- Dimuth Karunaratne – The rock at the top, Karunaratne thrives at SSC with his patient batting. His 244 vs Bangladesh here in 2022 proves his ability to anchor long innings on this flat pitch before it deteriorates.
- Dhananjaya de Silva – A clutch middle-order batter who adapts to any situation. His off-spin becomes handy as the pitch wears, making him a dual threat in Sri Lanka’s spin-heavy attack.
- Prabath Jayasuriya – SSC’s turning track suits his accurate left-arm spin. Took 12 wickets on debut here (vs Australia) and will target Bangladesh’s left-handers with his angle.
- Asitha Fernando – His reverse swing with the old ball can be lethal. His 6/51 vs Bangladesh in 2022 shows he can strike even on slow pitches.

Bangladesh’s Key Players to Watch
- Najmul Hossain Shanto – Bangladesh’s most reliable batter against spin. His 163 vs Ireland highlights his ability to build big scores, crucial at SSC where patience pays off.
- Shakib Al Hasan – Experience in Sri Lanka makes him vital. His left-arm spin and aggressive batting can change games, especially as the pitch starts turning.
- Mehidy Hasan – Off-spin thrives on SSC’s bounce. A wicket-taker and handy lower-order batter, his control builds pressure during long spells.
- Taskin Ahmed – Pace and bounce can surprise on slow tracks. Early breakthroughs with the new ball could disrupt Sri Lanka’s batting plans.

SL vs BAN 2025 2nd Test – Venue: SSC Cricket Ground
Stadium Capacity: Approximately 15,000 spectators
Stadium Address: 35 Maitland Place, Colombo 00700, Sri Lanka
Stadium Features: Located in the heart of Colombo, the SSC Cricket Ground is one of Sri Lanka’s most important cricket venues and is often referred to as the “Lord’s of Sri Lanka.” It is also considered one of the birthplaces of Sri Lankan cricket. The ground was originally established in 1899 by members of the Singhalese Sports Club, though it was not located at its current site back then. It was only in 1952 that the club moved to its present location. In 1956, thanks to sponsorship from a local businessman, the first pavilion was constructed—marking the ground’s transformation into a proper cricket stadium. Since then, the SSC has continued to improve and modernize. It hosted its first international match in 1982 and its first Test match in 1984. From that point onward, the SSC Cricket Ground steadily gained prominence on the international stage and cemented its place as a cornerstone of Sri Lankan cricket.
Here’s an interesting fact: during World War II, the land on which the stadium now stands was used by the Allied forces as an airstrip for military aircraft.
