ENG vs IND 1st Test Match:Day 5
Result:England beat India by 5 wickets.
| India | England |
| 471 & 364 | 465 & 373/5 |
England pulled off a stunning run chase at Headingley, reeling in a massive 371 with flair and firepower! Ben Duckett led the charge with a sparkling 149, while Crawley and Root chipped in with classy fifties. Jamie Smith added the final flourish, smacking a six to wrap things up with 14 overs to spare. It was England’s sixth straight win at Leeds, and once again, they did it bowling first. Stokes’ decision at the toss paid off big time, while India were left ruing dropped catches and late-innings meltdowns.

Despite five Indian centuries including a ton from debut skipper Shubman Gill. It was England’s sharper execution that made the difference. Duckett reverse-swept Jadeja into oblivion, Prasidh Krishna leaked runs like a sieve, and India’s fielding left a lot to be desired. Bumrah was fierce early on with a five-for, but faded when it mattered. Root and Smith’s cool-headed partnership sealed the deal, giving England a 1-0 lead in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, and leaving India searching for answers in this new Test era.

ENG vs IND 1st Test Match:Day 4
Stumps:England need 350 runs to win.
| India | England |
| 471 & 364 | 465 & 21/0 (6) |
Day four wrapped up with England eyeing an audacious 371-run chase after India were bundled out for 364, thanks to a late collapse that undid centuries from KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. Rahul’s classy 137 and Pant’s trademark fireworks for 118 lit up the day, but once those two were gone, India folded like a cheap deckchair—losing their last six wickets for just 31 runs. Josh Tongue, nicknamed “The Mop,” did just that, sweeping up the tail with 3 wickets in four balls and living up to the hype.
And the final victim…

England, needing 350 more runs, ended the day on 21 for none, calm as you like. Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett handled the six tricky overs with ease, Crawley even flicking back-to-back boundaries like it was a net session. This chase would be their second-biggest ever, but hey, Bazballers have done crazier things (remember Edgbaston 2022?). All eyes now on day five. Weather permitting, get ready for fireworks.

ENG vs IND 1st Test Match:Day 3
Stumps:India lead by 96 runs.
| India | England |
| 471 & 90/2 | 465 |
Day 3 at Headingley had it all—flair, frustration, and a pinch of drama. Harry Brook dazzled the home crowd with a swashbuckling 99, only to fall one short in agonizing fashion, pulling straight to deep square leg. England’s lower order backed him up big time, clawing their way to 465 and nearly matching India’s 471. Jasprit Bumrah was lethal yet again, grabbing a sizzling 5-for, but the visitors were left wondering how a dominant position turned into a near-deadlock.

In their second go, India tiptoed to 90 for 2 by stumps, with KL Rahul looking as cool as a cucumber on 47*. Yashasvi Jaiswal got a nasty one early, and Sai Sudharsan’s promising start ended just before the rain rolled in. With only 96 runs separating the sides and two full days left, this match is teetering deliciously on the edge. It’s now a one-innings shootout, and both teams know it’s game on.

ENG vs IND 1st Test Match:Day 2
Stumps:England trail by 262 runs.
| India | England |
| 471 | 209/3 |
Day 2 in Leeds was a rollercoaster for India, starting strong, ending with a bit of a facepalm. Rishabh Pant put on a fireworks display with a dazzling 134, showing off his usual flair and mischief. But after that? A swift collapse saw India lose 7 for 41, folding for 471. Not ideal. England then marched in with Ollie Pope leading the charge—surviving early drops and powering his way to a gutsy century. Jasprit Bumrah bowled like a demon, picking up all three wickets, but his efforts were blunted by missed chances and, to his horror, a no-ball that denied India a late scalp.
Ollie Pope… that is OUTSTANDING! 🔥

England ended the day at 209 for 3, still trailing by 262 but suddenly looking pretty comfortable. Pope and Ben Duckett (62) stitched together a partnership that frustrated the bowlers and fans alike. Shubman Gill, on debut as captain in the field, saw how quickly momentum can shift. With seven wickets still in hand, England have a foot back in the game, and India might be wondering if they let this one slip through butterfingers.

ENG vs IND 1st Test Match:Day 1
Stumps:India chose to bat.
| India |
| 359/3 |
India came out swinging on Day 1 at Headingley, piling up a commanding 359 for 3 and leaving England scratching their heads. Yashasvi Jaiswal and new captain Shubman Gill were the stars of the show—Jaiswal was all class on the off side, slicing and dicing his way to a century, while Gill, leading the side for the first time in Tests, showed who’s boss with a calm yet commanding 127*. Forget Rohit and Virat, India’s new-gen hitters are here, and they’re not messing around.

England might be rethinking their decision to bowl first, especially after watching Rishabh Pant blast into action with a no-nonsense 65* that included some trademark fireworks. Even Ben Stokes’ double strike couldn’t slow the Indian charge. The day ended with India in total control, their young guns blazing, and England left hoping for a miracle (or maybe just a better Day 2).

ENG vs IND 2025 1st Test: India vs England – The battle begins in 2025 Test opener
This is the first Test match between India and England in 2025. Last year, the two teams also faced off in a Test series, but that time India was the host in the England tour of India. This year, however, England will be hosting, and the series will take place across five different cricket grounds in England, including London, Manchester, Birmingham, and Leeds. Last year, India dominated the series, winning four matches and defeating England 4-1. Will England manage to take revenge this time? Only time will tell!

England’s Key Players to Watch
- Joe Root (Batter) – The former captain is a master of playing spin and swing, and his experience at Headingley (where the ball moves a lot) makes him crucial.
- James Anderson (Pacer) – Even at 42, he’s deadly in English conditions. His swing bowling at Headingley can dismantle India’s top order.
- Ben Stokes (All-rounder, Captain) – His aggressive batting and knack for breakthroughs with the ball make him a game-changer.
- Ollie Robinson (Pacer) – His height and seam movement are perfect for Headingley’s bounce and swing.

India’s Key Players to Watch
- Virat Kohli (Batter) – He’s back in form and loves a challenge. If he gets going, England’s bowlers will struggle.
- Jasprit Bumrah (Pacer) – His reverse swing and yorkers can be lethal, even in England.
- Ravichandran Ashwin (Spinner) – Headingley sometimes helps spin later, and Ashwin’s experience makes him a threat.
- Rohit Sharma (Batter, Captain) – If he settles in, his attacking style can take the game away from England quickly.
