RSA vs PAK 2024 2nd ODI- Pakistan posted a huge score to take the 2-0 lead
In the nail-biting first ODI, Pakistan won by just 3 wickets with 3 balls left. The second game was completely different, as Pakistan showed full strength with Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan’s total 153 runs, and Kamran Ghulam’s explosive 63 guiding them to 329 before the last few overs. South Africa really tried to fight back, but apart from Heinrich Klaasen’s brilliant 97 runs, no one else stood up. Without support, the chase collapsed with 7 overs still remaining.

RSA vs PAK – Seize the chance to beat the South Africa in both ways
Pakistan did not dominate straight away, spending almost two-fifths of their innings in the powerplay, but once settled they built a strong platform. Babar Azam held firm with 73 from 95 balls, Mohammad Rizwan added a fluent 83, and Kamran Ghulam changed the game with a blistering 63 off just 32 deliveries in the final overs. That late surge pushed the total beyond 300 and gave Pakistan control. With the ball, Naseem Shah took 3 wickets and Shaheen Afridi struck with 4, keeping their economy tighter than South Africa’s and leaving the hosts with little chance. Pakistan combined steady batting and sharp bowling to seal a convincing win, while South Africa’s reply told a very different story.

RSA vs PAK – Klaasen fought, but South Africa crumbled at both ends.
While Pakistan looked solid in both batting and bowling, South Africa’s response was few levels behind Pakistan’s performance. Heinrich Klaasen fought almost alone with a brilliant 97, but the rest of the lineup failed to offer any support. The other ten batters together averaged only 13.4 runs and struck at a strike rate of 61.25%, far too low for chasing 330. Without meaningful partnerships, South Africa’s innings collapsed long before the finish, and Klaasen’s effort—though heroic—was never enough to change the outcome.

South Africa’s bowling told a similar story of struggle. Apart from Bjorn Fortuin, who kept things steady through his spell, the rest of the attack leaked runs and let Pakistan build momentum. Maphaka and Jansen did manage breakthroughs, but their wickets came at a heavy cost, and the lack of control meant Pakistan’s batters were never really put under pressure.
RSA vs PAK – Conclusion
Even though the final score looked one-sided, South Africa did show some fight at the start of their chase with 2 sixes and 5 fours in the powerplay. Heinrich Klaasen, who had also top-scored with 86 in the first ODI, once again stood tall with 97 runs, trying hard to keep his team alive. But the game had already tilted when Pakistan’s batters were well set. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan together made more than half of the 329 total, and Kamran Ghulam’s quick 63 in the last overs pushed the score beyond reach. It was less about South Africa being poor and more about Pakistan finding the right way to secure their second win in the series.

RSA vs PAK 2024 2nd ODI – Venue History&Analysis: Newlands Cricket Ground
Stadium Capacity: Around 25,000 spectators
Stadium Address: Campground Rd, Newlands, Cape Town
About the Stadium:
Newlands in Cape Town is one of the most famous cricket grounds in the world. With Table Mountain in the background and space for 25,000 fans, the view is as special as the matches played here. The pitch is tricky-fast bowlers usually get help in the morning, while spinners find turn later in the day. For batters, it takes patience before they can score freely. Runs never come easy at Newlands, but the match of RSA vs PAK here would be exciting to watch if the South Africa is ready to defend their home court.
