Updated:England beat South Africa by 146 runs.

| 304/2(20) | 158(16.1) |
England came out swinging in Manchester and boy, did they deliver! Phil Salt turned into a one-man fireworks show, blasting an outrageous 141* off just 60 balls, the fastest T20I ton by an English batter (39 balls!) and their highest individual score in the format. He and Jos Buttler (a casual 83) powered England to a jaw-dropping 304 for 2, the highest T20I score ever by England and third-highest globally. South Africa’s bowlers had a nightmare return from injury, leaking runs like a busted hose. Rabada, Jansen, and Williams all went wicketless and expensive. This was England’s biggest T20I win ever, and the series is now all tied up at 1-1.

Chasing 305 was never really on, even for a side like South Africa, who once pulled off 259. Jofra Archer, back with a bang, struck three times and took two more catches just for fun. Sam Curran floated up his moon balls and picked up two wickets himself. Aiden Markram top-scored with 41, but support was scarce. England’s bowling was clever, their batting ruthless, and their vibe? Untouchable. All roads now lead to Sunday’s decider, and if this was the warm-up, the finale might just explode.

ENG vs SA 2025 2nd T20I – First time at Old Trafford
England and South Africa will clash in the second T20I on September 12 at Old Trafford. Interestingly, the two teams have never played a T20I against each other at this venue, so there are no head-to-head records to look at. Going by the pitch history, Old Trafford has generally offered something for the fast bowlers, so the contest could well be decided by the depth and impact of both pace attacks.
ENG vs SA – Focus on Jofra Archer for England
England’s record in T20Is at Old Trafford has been quite average with a fifty percent win rate, which means the home advantage may not count for much. But the nature of the pitch gives extra importance to Jofra Archer. He impressed in the recent ODI series with eight wickets from 24 overs, and in the first T20I he was rested due to weather conditions and ground safety. With proper recovery, if he bowls at full rhythm, he could be the biggest hurdle for South Africa. Saqib Mahmood is another name to watch closely. Being a Manchester lad, Old Trafford is his real home ground, and sometimes such familiarity brings unexpected performances.

ENG vs SA – Rabada the key man for South Africa
Kagiso Rabada is South Africa’s answer to Jofra Archer. He missed the recent ODI series with ankle concerns, more as a precaution. But he featured in the opening T20I and should play the next two. Since returning, he has four T20I games with promising numbers – averaging 1.5 wickets though his economy at 8.31 is a bit high. After more than a year out, patience is needed for him to regain peak levels. Alongside Ngidi, Jansen and Maphaka, Rabada completes a four-pronged pace attack strong enough to challenge Archer and England’s bowlers.

ENG vs SA – Conclusion
The previous match was rain hit and neither side completed 20 overs. South Africa won, yet it did not reveal the true balance between the teams. England had only five overs, while South Africa faced just 7.5 overs. Hopefully this game goes the full distance so we get a fair read. But speaking purely as a personal call, I slightly back South Africa to nick a narrow win.
ENG vs SA 2025 2nd T20I – Venue: Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester
Stadium Capacity: Around 19,000 spectators
Stadium Address: Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester, England, United Kingdom
About the Stadium:
Emirates Old Trafford Cricket Ground, located in the Manchester region of England, has been around since 1857 and is the second oldest Test venue in the country after The Oval. It proudly holds the record of hosting the most World Cup matches anywhere in the world, having staged 17 games across five editions – 1975, 1979, 1983, 1999 and 2019. Among these fixtures, five were semi-finals, again the highest by any stadium. The only regret is that even till 2025 Old Trafford has not seen a single World Cup final. Still, this venue will forever be remembered as the stage where Australia’s legendary leg-spinner Shane Warne rose to fame with the iconic “Ball of the Century.”

At that time, spinners hardly got respect, with fast bowlers ruling the game. But at just 24, Warne entered his first Ashes and produced a delivery that changed the fate of leg-spin forever. In the 1993 Ashes Test here, he faced England’s seasoned middle-order batter Mike Gatting. With his very first ball, Warne bowled a leg-break that looked destined to pitch wide on the leg side. Everyone, including Gatting, thought it was harmless, but after pitching it spun more than a foot to crash into the stumps. The cricketing world was stunned. That single ball made Warne an instant superstar and brought leg-spin back to the spotlight, marking the revival of spin bowling on the world stage.
