There it goes, as the final six got off the edge without touching it. Saif Hassan did not strike out Mohammad Nabi, but Nabi hit the last ball with chasing 222 and end up in a style 226. By 5 wickets, Afghanistan really still got it in ODI form, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Rahmat Shah both smashed 50 runs off, and the player of the match, Azmatullah Omarzai contributing 3 wickets and 2 of those were in the opening, really forced Bangladesh need to score in the middle, pressure them pretty well. Afghanistan took the first win in the series and ready for game 2 in motion.
𝐀𝐟𝐠𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧 𝐖𝐢𝐧! 🙌#AfghanAtalan have put on a clinical batting performance to chase down the target and beat Bangladesh by 5 wickets in the first match of the Etisalat Cup ODI Series. 👏#AFGvBAN2025 | #GloriousNationVictoriousTeam pic.twitter.com/Do4kzkdMHm

Can’t hold the late overs pressure in the defending battle, Saif lost the final chance, let Nabi hit the last 6 and fail the first game. But where is the problem? Their batting force was only a bit off compared to Afghanistan with 1 over difference to get 100 runs, the true issue was there seamers, only Tanzim Hasan Sakib managed with 3 wickets and 4.42 ECON, Taskin Ahmed bowled a 6.5 ECON in 10 overs, sadly that was definitely too high and a great opportunity for Afghanistan to go off from the start. Hope their wickets spells can vary and handle the next match.

AFG vs BAN 2025 1st ODI – New Challenges For Two Big Cats
The first ODI in the UAE brings fresh questions for both sides. Afghanistan step in without senior batter Rahmat Shah and with gaps in their spin options after some regular names were left out. Bangladesh also have their own worries. The team is still settling under new leadership, with captain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz recently recovering from fever during the Test series, while former captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Litton Das who leads in T20 format have both been managing finger and back concerns in recent weeks. These uncertainties place extra weight on the shoulders of both squads as they prepare to restart their rivalry in the fifty over format.

AFG vs BAN – Bangladesh’s Internal Concerns
Bangladesh enter this series with strong cricketing depth but also off field distractions. The board elections are happening just days before the ODI series begins, creating another layer of uncertainty for players. History shows that instability at board level often filters down, as seen with Zimbabwe where administrative interference hurt team progress for years. With such issues in the background, Bangladesh’s challenge is to stay focused on cricket. Their lineup is experienced and balanced, but questions remain about how much the external noise will affect performance on the field.

AFG vs BAN – Better Form in ODI
Recent numbers tell a different story from the T20I series. Afghanistan have won two of their last three ODIs, showing growth in the fifty over game. In rankings too, Afghanistan sit at number seven while Bangladesh are placed at number ten. This points to a potential shift in momentum when the format changes. Bangladesh, having come through the Asia Cup and a T20I series, carry the extra fatigue of a packed schedule. Afghanistan by contrast look fresher and will want to use that edge to strike early in the ODI series.

AFG vs BAN – Different Momentum in Coming?
Afghanistan were eliminated from the Asia Cup but they bring stronger form into the ODI series. Their younger squad shows promise, though it comes at the cost of leaving out experienced names such as Rahmat Shah, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Karim Janat. The idea is to prepare a side with more youthful energy for the future. This will test their ability to maintain consistency against a Bangladesh team that may not be at full strength but still has the depth to compete. The battle in Sheikh Zayed Stadium promises to reveal which of these two teams can adapt better to their new challenges in the longer white ball format.

AFG vs BAN 2025 1st ODI – Venue History&Analysis: Sheikh Zayed Stadium
Stadium Capacity: Around 20,000 spectators
Stadium Address: Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium, Khalifa City, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
About the Stadium:
Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi is a relatively young venue in cricketing terms, having been opened in 2004, yet in a short time it has carved out a strong reputation. Named after Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the United Arab Emirates, the stadium represents both modern ambition and sporting vision. Its debut on the international stage came during Pakistan’s tours in the mid-2000s, when the UAE became a neutral host due to political circumstances. From then on, it grew into a hub for global cricket, staging key ICC tournaments, Asia Cup fixtures, and bilateral series for teams across the world.

The ground is also remembered for the introduction of “home away from home” matches for Pakistan, a period that lasted nearly a decade, making Abu Dhabi a vital platform for their cricketing survival. Beyond international contests, the stadium has welcomed IPL games, Pakistan Super League matches, and other franchise tournaments, underlining its importance in the global cricket calendar. Despite its relatively short history, Sheikh Zayed Stadium carries a reputation for reliability and grandeur, showing how the UAE has become a key host for the sport’s biggest events.
