Scotland T20I Tri-Series 2025 3rd Match Results

updated:Nepal beat Scotland by 2 wickets.

ScotlandNepal
97 (19.4)98/8 (19.5)

Nepal and Scotland put on a nail-biting show in Glasgow, but it was Nepal who held their nerve to snatch a two-wicket win with just one ball to spare. After bowling Scotland out for a modest 97, thanks to a sizzling 4-wicket haul from Sandeep Lamichhane and key strikes by Karan KC, Nepal’s chase was anything but smooth. Wickets tumbled, nerves kicked in, and it came down to needing just one run from the final two deliveries. Fittingly, it was Lamichhane, hero with the ball, who coolly tapped the winning single.

Scotland’s batting struggled apart from a lone fightback by Michael Leask, who scored 46 before being bowled in the final over. In reply, Nepal’s top order wobbled, with Bhurtel’s 30 providing a glimmer of stability. But after more late drama and a steadying hand from Kiran Thagunna, it was enough to take Nepal across the line. After their Super Over thriller against the Netherlands the day before, Nepal seem to be making last-over chaos their new trademark.

SCO vs NEP 2025 3rd T20I – Scotland With Clear Upper Hand, Plus Home Advantage!

As the title suggests, boss, Scotland is quite evidently the stronger side overall. No need to break it down player by player, even if you simply look at international exposure, Nepal is operating at maybe two-thirds of Scotland’s level. Most of their players are still very young, and when you’re facing a team stronger than you, that too in tough conditions like Forthill, which is cold, windy, and not ideal for subcontinental players, then pressure becomes a huge factor. These young Nepal lads, under such stress, can crumble quite early in the game. That’s the hard truth.

SCO vs NEP – Not Enough Head-to-Head Data? Does It Really Matter?

Some might say there isn’t enough data from bilateral series to judge these two teams, but come on, yaar, the past never lies. While most of their meetings have been in ICC qualifiers or friendlies, Scotland has already beaten Nepal six times in a row, while Nepal managed a single win way back in 2015. That alone says a lot. Also, Nepal’s cricket development started quite late, and their players, although talented, lack exposure to high-pressure, back-to-back matches. Apart from Rohit Paudel, who’s been around since 2018, most players have just about 3 years of international experience, and almost all are under 25. That youth, while promising, is also risky.

SCO vs NEP – Scotland’s Squad Is Way More Balanced and Versatile

Look, to be very honest, when you compare the line-ups side by side, Scotland clearly comes out on top. They’ve got experience, flexibility, and structure. Up front, you’ve got Munsey and Hairs, solid power-hitters; in the middle, McMullen and Berrington anchor things; and towards the end, the finishing power of Leask and Cross can destroy any bowling attack. Their bowling attack is also very balanced, they’ve got pace, swing, spin, and tactical depth.

Now compare that with Nepal: they rely heavily on the likes of Bhurtel and Sheikh to fire at the top. Their bowling, frankly, lacks variation, mostly pace, and not much depth to fall back on. On a venue like Forthill, where conditions can be harsh, this lack of adaptability might seriously hurt them.

SCO vs NEP – So Where’s the Breakthrough for Nepal?

Okay, so it sounds one-sided till now, but yaar, cricket is a funny game. We have all seen miracles. Nepal can absolutely pull off an upset, but everything has to click. Their Powerplay must be explosive think 60+ runs in the first 6 overs, led by Bhurtel and Sheikh. Then in the middle overs, players like Airee and Malla need to stay composed, rotate the strike, and avoid collapses.

But the biggest test will be in death overs bowling, keeping Scotland’s big hitters like Leask and Cross under control is no small task. If they manage these three phases well, Nepal might just pull off what many will call a miracle.

SCO vs NEP – Final Verdict: Only a Miracle Can Save Nepal

Honestly speaking, unless we witness something out of the ordinary, it’s Scotland’s match to lose. It sounds brutal, but that’s how it is. The gap is not because Nepal is “bad”, it’s just that their cricket is still growing, and they haven’t had the same time or resources to build a deep squad like Scotland.

But hey, this isn’t a complete mismatch like India or Australia vs Nepal, then I probably wouldn’t even bother analysing, I’d just say “Nepal will lose” and move on!

SCO vs NEP 2025 3rd T20I – Which players are expected to shine?

Scotland’s Key Players to Watch

  • George Munsey – As Scotland’s explosive opening batsman, Munsey is a pivotal figure at the top of the order. Despite a finger injury in May 2024, he has recovered in time for this series. Against Nepal, he scored 25 runs in their last encounter, showing his ability to dominate early overs.
  • Richie Berrington – The veteran captain brings leadership and middle-order stability. In their previous match vs Nepal, Berrington scored 19 runs and played a crucial anchoring role. His experience under pressure remains one of Scotland’s biggest assets.
  • Mark Watt – Scotland’s lead left-arm spinner, Watt poses a serious threat even in windy conditions like at Forthill. He dismissed Aasif Sheikh in their last clash and returned figures of 1/43 in 8 overs, with a solid economy of 5.37.
  • Brad Currie – A dependable left-arm pacer, Currie took the key wicket of Kushal Malla and finished with 1/24 from 4 overs in their previous T20I meeting. His tight control in the middle overs makes him a consistent option for Berrington.

Nepal’s Key Players to Watch

  • Kushal Bhurtel – Nepal’s aggressive opener, Bhurtel provides early momentum. In the previous match against Scotland, he scored 25 runs and helped lay a solid foundation during the Powerplay.
  • Aarif Sheikh – A stabilizer in the middle order, Aarif Sheikh top-scored with 51* (not out) in the last match vs Scotland. His ability to rotate strike and find gaps makes him vital in the middle overs.
  • Sandeep Lamichhane – Nepal’s star leg-spinner, Lamichhane remains a game-changer. In their most recent clash, he dismissed both Matthew Cross and Jack Jarvis, conceding just 45 runs in 10 overs with an excellent economy rate of 4.50.
  • Sompal Kami – The experienced pacer picked up 2 crucial wickets (Mark Watt and Michael Leask) and had the best economy rate of 3.69 (2/32 in 8.4 overs) in the last T20I vs Scotland. His control and composure under pressure are major strengths.

SCO vs NEP 2025 3rd T20I – Venue History&Analysis: Forthill Cricket Ground

Stadium Capacity: Open-air

Stadium Address: Broughty Ferry, Dundee, Angus, Scotland

Stadium History:

Forthill Cricket Ground has a history spanning over 140 years, having been established in 1884 in Dundee, Scotland. However, as mentioned in previous introductions, due to the local popularity of football and the temperate oceanic climate, cricket matches have been held quite infrequently. As a result, cricket is not particularly popular in this area. The first official international match wasn’t held until 2019. Prior to that, most matches at the ground involved academy teams from different countries or domestic competitions within Scotland.

Stadium Features:

The Forthill Cricket Ground lies in a region with a temperate oceanic climate. Its cold, damp, and windy conditions can limit players’ performance. The average humidity ranges between 85% and 90%, while the average wind speed is around 12.2 km/h, and can occasionally reach up to 20 km/h. Although this is considered a generally mild environment, both bowling and batting can be affected—especially high balls, which are more influenced when wind speeds are strong.

Advantage Analysis:

This tri-nation series marks the second T20I series meeting between the two teams. Previously, they mostly faced each other in ICC World Cup Qualifiers, along with two other matches, one friendly and one round-robin tri-series game, making a total of seven encounters. Out of those, Nepal has only managed one win, back in 2015, while Scotland won the remaining six matches.

The most recent match was a friendly last year, in which Nepal batted second but failed to chase the target of 185 and lost. That match was held at The Grange Club, known as a high-scoring venue in Scotland. Despite the favorable batting conditions, Nepal was still heavily suppressed by Scotland’s bowling attack. This time, the match is again in Scotland, and at Forthill, where the weather is even more challenging. Theoretically, Nepal’s chances of winning remain low.
