The standoff between India and Pakistan began after Bangladesh was removed from the T20 World Cup. Due to the rising political tensions between India and Bangladesh, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) instructed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to omit Mustafizur Rahman from their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 squad.

After Rahman was removed from KKR’s roster, a huge backlash erupted in Bangladesh. Their government cited security concerns and refused to give permission to the national team to play their games in India and wanted them scheduled in Sri Lanka. However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) deemed India as safe for Bangladesh and declined the demand just two weeks ahead of the tournament.

The Pakistan government announced on social media on February 1 that they will not take the field against India. However, ICC is said to have intimated PCB of potential sanctions, which ranged from loss of revenue, cancellation of bilateral series and denying No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to foreign players for the Pakistan Super League. 3 Pakistan Players Who India Need to Be Wary of
The Pakistan squad for T20 World Cup has the presence of talented players, who can spoil the party for the Indian team. With wins in both games, the Salman Ali Agha-led team will be confident of their form and prospects against India.

There are some players who have shown their ability to dominate their opponents with their skills and playing style. Let’s take a look at three players expected to perform well against the Men in Blue.

Sahibzada Farhan
After registering scores of 40, 58 and 57 in the Asia Cup 2025 fixtures against India, Farhan is the most dangerous batter for India in the T20 World Cup. He has enjoyed scoring against a similar attack and the Colombo game will be no different for the right-hander.

for the team!

Farhan is also the top-scorer for Pakistan in the tournament with 120 runs in two games. In his last appearance against the USA, he slammed 73 off 41 and was the Player of the Match. It will be critical for the Indian team to get rid of him quickly to gain an advantage early in the innings.

Shadab Khan
The bowling all-rounder, Shadab is one of the players to watch out for in the India vs Pakistan match in T20 World Cup 2026. With 75 runs and four wickets in the three-match T20I series against Australia, he came into the tournament on the back of good form.

Shadab has made a fine start to the World Cup campaign, with 38 runs and two wickets in two outings. He slammed 30 off 12 against the USA to show his finishing ability, and also took two wickets with the ball. The Men in Blue would look to dismiss him early and successfully negotiate his spin.

Usman Tariq
One of the most debated players among the Pakistan squad for T20 World Cup is Tariq, due to his unusual action. The 27-year-old takes a brief pause before delivering the ball and is facing chucking allegations ahead of the India game.
