Despite having a decades-old rivalry, India and Pakistan have only faced one another on five occasions at the ICC Champions Trophy. It’s interesting to note that Pakistan leads India by a slim margin of 3-2 in the Champions Trophy.
1. India vs Pakistan, 2004
Result:Pakistan won by 3 wickets.
India and Pakistan met for the first time at the Champions Trophy in Birmingham in 2004. India, who had been sent into bat initially, were in complete chaos after losing six wickets in the 34th over with only 106 runs scored. Ajit Agarkar scored 47, and Rahul Dravid scored 67 to help India reach 200 all out. Irfan Pathan’s three wickets in the reply took Pakistan by surprise early on, but Inzaman-ul-Haq (41) and Mohammad Yousuf (81 not out) helped the side to the finish line in 49.2 overs.
2. India vs Pakistan, 2009
Result:Pakistan won by 54 runs.
In their second encounter in the Champions Trophy in Centurion, Pakistan defeated India, led by Shoaib Malik. Shoaib Malik’s 128 and Mohammed Yusuf’s 87 helped Pakistan, who batted first, to 302/9 in 50 overs. Ashish Nehra claimed four wickets for India. Despite half-centuries from Rahul Dravid (76), Gautam Gambhir (57), and a 46 from Suresh Raina, India lost by 54 runs.
3. India vs Pakistan, 2013
Result:India won by 8 wickets.
With a 0–2 head-to-head record, India needed to close the gap in Birmingham in 2013. The Indian bowlers, under the leadership of skipper MS Dhoni, performed an excellent job of holding Pakistan to 165 in 39.2 overs. India was given a revised target of 102 runs in 22 overs due to the rain. India won by eight wickets, with Virat Kohli remaining undefeated at 22 and Shikhar Dhawan leading the chase with a hit of 48. India eventually defeated England to win the championship.
4. India vs Pakistan, 2017
Result:India won by 124 runs. (DLS method)
Four years later, in the UK once more, India made it 2-2. India got off to a fast start as they batted first, thanks to a 136-run partnership between Rohit Sharma (91) and Shikhar Dhawan (68) for the first wicket. The Men in Blue reached 319/3 in 50 overs thanks to Yuvraj Singh’s 32-ball 53 and Virat Kohli’s 81 not out. Pakistan responded by being dismissed for 164 runs in 33.4 overs.
5. India vs Pakistan, 2017 (Final Match)

Result:Pakistan won by 180 runs.
India was the overwhelming favourite to defeat Pakistan in the final match at The Oval. However, centurion Fakhar Zaman (114) and Azhar Ali (59) put the Virat Kohli-led India on the defensive as Pakistan scored 338/4 in 50 overs. Except for Hardik Pandya, whose 76 proved to be insufficient for the Indian squad, the Indian batsmen were severely impacted by the scoreboard pressure and dropped like nine pins in response. In the end, India was dismissed for 158 in 30.3 overs.

Now, India in Champions Trophy 2025, will be looking to make the head-to-head record equal at the Dubai International Stadium. Many experts are having their say on the forthcoming India vs Pakistan match, but there is an interesting take from former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh regarding India in the Champions Trophy and also on the upcoming India vs Pakistan matchup on February 23rd.
What Harbhajan Singh Said?

Harbhajan Singh has warned fans not to expect much excitement from the highly anticipated Champions Trophy match involving India and Pakistan on February 23. When the bitter rivals square off for triumph on the same field, the tension and environment are very different.

IND vs PAK Last Encounter at Champions Trophy
The Champions Trophy final at The Oval in 2017 was the last time India and Pakistan faced one other. Under Sarfaraz Ahmed’s leadership, Pakistan defeated its fierce opponent by 180 runs to win its first Champions Trophy. But given the huge difference between the two teams, Harbhajan Singh doesn’t think the “overhyped” battle will go all the way to the end this time.

Harbhajan Singh’s Opinion
Harbhajan Singh said on his YouTube channel, “We will discuss the overhyped match between India and Pakistan. Yes, it is overhyped because there is nothing in it. India is a strong team. Pakistan is inconsistent. If you compare the numbers with the Indian team, the picture will become clear.”
