SRH bowling lineup in 2026 IPL is the talk of the town at the moment, as they have suffered a major setback with their leading bowler and skipper, Pat Cummins, not being available for the initial phases of the tournament. Additionally, his Australian countryman, all-rounder Jack Edwards, has been ruled out entirely from the competition due to a foot injury. The franchise has brought in England’s 35-year-old left-arm seamer, David Payne, as Edwards’ replacement at ₹1.5 crore.

SRH’s batting lineup in 2026 is rated among the best in the competition, featuring T20 powerhouses in the setup such as Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Heinrich Klaasen, and their new signing, Liam Livingstone.

SRH’s Batting Looks Formidable, But Bowling Appears To Be Weak
With no Pat Cummins in the squad for the initial games, the other SRH fast bowlers are Eshan Malinga, Harshal Patel, Jayden Unadkat, Shivam Mavi, Sakib Hussain, Omkar Tarmale, Brydon Carse, David Payne, and Praful Hinge, which looks slightly inexperienced on paper and tends to give away runs quite easily.

Even the current SRH spin bowlers don’t have an impressive track record in the IPL, including the likes of Zeeshan Ansari, Kamindu Mendis, Harsh Dubey, Krains Fuletra, and Amit Kumar. It seems the management has invested heavily in their batting, as the SRH bowling lineup appears slightly weak despite having quite a few potential match-winners in the list.

They released Adam Zampa ahead of the IPL 2026 auction, and he didn’t register his name for the auction; instead, he opted to play for Karachi Kings in PSL 2026. They also traded the experienced Mohammed Shami to Lucknow Super Giants following a mediocre season last year. Rahul Chahar, who has played six T20Is, was also let go from the franchise, as he had limited exposure last season, where he took part in only a solitary game. The auction strategy adopted by the management raises a question: why did they not go for experienced bowlers, as they instead poured their money into more inexperienced Indian bowlers? Former cricketer Aakash Chopra has made a bold statement while looking at the SRH bowling lineup for 2026, saying,
“If they score 250, they might concede 250.”
This is a huge statement given the current squad analysis and previous track records. The statement might get reversed as well if the inexperienced bowling attack clicks on their day, as T20 is all about how you perform on a given day. Previous track records don’t always apply. The current SRH fast bowlers and spin bowlers need to draw inspiration from their batters and bowl with a lot of heart.

Those days are gone when a bowling economy above 7 was considered high. With the rapid rise of the T20 format, thanks to franchise cricket, even a bowling economy of 9 or slightly less is nowadays considered normal, especially when the bowler picks up one or two wickets. SRH should adapt this strategy and focus more on their batting, aiming to score big, which will give their inexperienced bowling attack an extra cushion to defend runs.

SRH’s Bowling Performance in Their Opener Against RCB
SRH fast bowlers and spinners got off to a nightmare start in IPL 2026, as they failed to defend 201 on a flat surface at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on the opening night of the 19th edition, where they lost by 6 wickets. What’s worse is that they lost the match with 26 balls still to spare. All six bowlers used by stand-in skipper Ishan Kishan went for runs, with each of them conceding more than 9 runs an over. The only positive was debutant David Payne, who picked up back-to-back wickets of Rajat Patidar and Jitesh Sharma in his second over.

Witnessing how they performed on Saturday night, SRH spin bowlers and seamers will have to put in a lot of work in the upcoming matches to stay in the playoff race. It will be a testing time for sure for SRH spin bowlers and seamers going forward.

SRH’s Chances of Lifting the Trophy in IPL 2026
Looking at SRH’s spin and fast bowling attack this year, their chances of lifting the trophy appear slim, as there is a saying in cricket: “Batters win you games, but bowlers win you tournaments.” Since the IPL is a long tournament, playing half of the league matches at home is a privilege for SRH, as they can prepare surfaces according to their needs and win games. However, when it comes to the playoffs, they may not get their desired conditions, and that’s when the SRH bowling lineup in 2026 will truly be tested.

They have to be spot on from ball one in the business end, and even a small error will cost them if their batters fail to make an impact—just like how they crumbled for a meagre 113 when they reached the finals in IPL 2024, where they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders by 8 wickets. The SRH bowling lineup in 2026 doesn’t look impressive at all and needs to put in a lot of hard work in order to improve and excel going forward in the competition.
