Injury concerns among their fast bowlers continue to be a major issue for Sunrisers Hyderabad’s management, with their latest setback being England seamer Brydon Carse, who has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2026 due to a hand injury. The 30-year-old was reportedly struck on the hand while batting in the nets ahead of the season opener against defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Brydon Carse’s injury paves the way for a second opportunity for Sri Lankan seamer Dilshan Madushanka in IPL, who was previously part of the Mumbai Indians squad in IPL 2024 but did not feature in a single match after a hamstring injury ended his chances. Dilshan Madushanka’s bowling will add variety to SRH’s attack, as their experienced seamers, including Harshal Patel and Jaydev Unadkat, have struggled to contain runs, while their skipper Pat Cummins is yet to regain full fitness.

Injury Ends Brydon Carse’s IPL 2026 Journey
Yet another season, and yet another injury, have ruled Brydon Carse out of the IPL for the second consecutive time. He was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for ₹1 crore in 2025; however, he couldn’t feature in a single game due to a toe injury. The Durham seamer, who was retained by the management, is still waiting for his maiden IPL appearance after injuring his right hand ahead of the IPL 2026 opener. The management had hoped Carse would recover in time, but he didn’t, which led them to replace him with Sri Lankan seamer Dilshan Madushanka, who joins the Orange Army for ₹75 lakh.

Brydon Carse’s injury appears to be serious; otherwise, the management would not have taken such a decision in the middle of the tournament. He last played earlier this year at the SCG during the Ashes against the Australian national cricket team. Carse has made a total of 58 appearances for the England national cricket team across formats, picking up 112 wickets. He is also a capable lower-order batter, having scored 667 runs, with a highest score of 56. Will the SRH management retain Carse for next season? We’ll have to wait and see.

Will Dilshan Madushanka’s Bowling Solve SRH’s Hiccups?
Sunrisers Hyderabad are currently sitting fourth in the standings with 4 points in their bank. Carrying the tag of one of the most inexperienced bowling attacks in the competition, the Orange Army has done a decent job so far, despite missing their lead bowler and skipper Pat Cummins. Regular starters Harshal Patel and Jaydev Unadkat have not been up to the mark, managing just three wickets between them while conceding runs at an economy rate of more than 10.

In another major setback, Brydon Carse has been ruled out of the tournament due to injury. However, the management has secured a ready-made replacement in the form of Sri Lankan left-arm seamer Dilshan Madushanka. This time, Dilshan Madushanka in IPL is hopeful of getting a chance.

Out of the five matches SRH have played, they have conceded 200-plus totals twice, which is still a fair outcome given the flat batting tracks. In a notable turnaround, debutant pacers Praful Hinge (4 for 34) and Sakib Hussain (4 for 24) delivered standout performances against the in-form Rajasthan Royals earlier this week, helping SRH secure a convincing 57-run victory. Left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey and Sri Lankan seamer Eshan Malinga currently lead the bowling charts for the side with five wickets each, while rookie chinaman bowler Shivang Kumar has also contributed with four wickets.
A new chapter begins 🥳
