It’s a huge achievement to secure a title victory in the world’s biggest T20 league, the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, one of the most overlooked facts is the most wins in IPL by a team, which can be another criterion to judge success. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally won their maiden IPL title in the 2025 season and brought smiles to the faces of their fans. Interestingly, they are the most successful IPL franchise in this decade.

Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer in IPL 2024, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) went on to dominate their opposition teams and lift the title. The successful campaign pushed them to the third spot in this list with 44 victories in 87 games.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Indians (MI) won the title in IPL 2020 and haven’t been consistent since then. It is worth noting that they finished 10th in the 2022 and 2024 seasons, but are still fourth in the most IPL wins in this decade, with 44 victories in 90 games. Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Lucknow Super Giants take the subsequent spots.

Surprise Performers in Most Wins in IPL by a Team

Let’s take a look at the teams that have surprised with their rankings in the most IPL wins in this decade.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru – 50 Wins in 90 Games

Under the leadership of Virat Kohli in 2020, RCB progressed through to the playoffs with seven wins in 14 games. However, they lost against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator, ending their season. Kohli’s RCB continued their momentum in 2021, as they garnered nine victories in 14 games. However, luck did not favor them this time either, as they were beaten by the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Eliminator. Faf du Plessis’ debut season as a captain for RCB saw the franchise reach the playoffs again in 2022 with eight wins in 14 games.

In his first season as a captain, Rajat Patidar helped the Royal Challengers Bengaluru to lift the title in 2025. However, the previous captains, like Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis, have helped the team top the list of most IPL wins in this decade. With seven wins in 14 games, RCB finished sixth in 2023 and failed to book a playoff spot. In 2024, they thrillingly reached the playoffs by beating their arch-rival, the Chennai Super Kings. However, the Royals ended their campaign by beating them in the Eliminator.

Under the leadership of Rajat Patidar, RCB finished second in the IPL 2025 table with nine wins in 14 games. Then, they prevailed over the Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1 and the final to lift the title. After reaching the playoffs in five out of six seasons, RCB have been consistent with their performances and have the most wins in IPL by a team this decade.

Delhi Capitals – 45 Wins in 89 Games

Although the Capitals haven’t won the title, they are second among most IPL wins in this decade with 45 victories. In 2020, they qualified for the playoffs after tasting victory in eight of their 14 appearances under Shreyas Iyer. Despite losing to the Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 1, they bounced back by beating Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 1. But Iyer’s side fell short in the final against Rohit Sharma’s MI side.

After Iyer missed the first half of 2021 due to a shoulder injury, Rishabh Pant led DC. They topped the table with 10 wins in 14 games. Then, the Capitals lost Qualifier 1 against CSK and Qualifier 2 against KKR. Then, the remaining four seasons have seen them failing to qualify for the playoffs. With terrific performances in the first two years, they are ranked second in the list of most wins in IPL by a team.

Chennai Super Kings – 42 Wins in 88 Games

The 2020s began with CSK winning only six out of 14 games under the leadership of MS Dhoni. They did well to secure nine wins in 14 games and qualified for the playoffs in 2021. They continued their dominance by beating DC in Qualifier 1 and KKR in the final to claim the title. However, the 2022 campaign was a shocking one, as they managed to win only four out of their 14 games. The beginning of the season saw Ravindra Jadeja failing to win many games as a captain and passing on the baton back to Dhoni.

With eight wins in 14 games, CSK came back on track in 2023. They beat the Gujarat Titans (GT) in Qualifier 1 and the final to win the title. Since 2024, Ruturaj Gaikwad has been leading the side, which has hurt the team’s chances of securing the most wins in IPL by a team. After Gaikwad was injured mid-way through the 2025 season, MS Dhoni took over the leadership. But the side ended up in the last position with only four wins in 14 games. Despite being the five-time champions, they have so far notched only 42 wins and rank fifth among most IPL wins in this decade.
