Zimbabwe T20I Tri-Series 2025 6th Match Results
Updated:New Zealand beat Zimbabwe by 60 runs.
| New Zealand | Zimbabwe |
| 190/6 (20) | 130 (18.5) |
New Zealand lit up the field with a commanding win over Zimbabwe, dropping a serious hint that they mean business ahead of the final against South Africa. Tim Seifert and Rachin Ravindra were in beast mode, putting on a 108-run stand and cracking back-to-back fifties. A late fireworks display from Michael Bracewell pushed their total to a hefty 190. Zimbabwe’s fielding, though? Let’s just say it was more generous than sharp, three dropped catches, seven wides, and a no-ball didn’t help their case.

Chasing a steep target, Zimbabwe crumbled early, losing half their side for just 44. Ish Sodhi spun a web with a career-best 4 for 12, climbing to third on the all-time T20I wicket-takers list in the process. Tony Munyonga tried to bring some dignity with a 40, but the damage was already done. Ngarava was Zimbabwe’s standout with four wickets, but it wasn’t enough to stop the 60-run thumping. With their campaign over, Zimbabwe will need to regroup fast before the Africa qualifiers roll around.
A career-best 4-wicket haul from Ish Sodhi (4-12) saw New Zealand claim a 60-run win in the final round-robin match of the Tri-Series.

ZIM vs NZ 2025 6th T20I – Can New Zealand Maintain Their Unbeaten Streak?
As mentioned earlier in the article “ZIM vs NZ 2025 3rd T20I Tri-Series – After 10 Years, Who Will Win? Zimbabwe or New Zealand?”, New Zealand has maintained a perfect record against Zimbabwe in all of their past T20I encounters. Zimbabwe have never managed to notch up a win, and to make matters worse, most of the defeats came with massive margins. So the writing, as they say, is already on the wall…
ZIM vs NZ – A Mountain Too High?
Currently ranked No. 12 in the ICC T20I rankings, Zimbabwe are clearly stuck in a bit of a middle zone, not quite minnows, but not consistent enough to be counted among the elites. However, they have their moments of brilliance. Take for example the series in July 2024 against India: Zimbabwe shocked everyone by winning the opening match, with Tendai Chatara and Sikandar Raza running riot and restricting India to just 102. Although India came back strongly to win the next four matches, that one-off win was enough to show that Zimbabwe cannot be taken lightly.
ZIM vs NZ – Boult May Be Gone, But Jamieson and Henry Remain!
Yes, Boult is gone but that doesn’t mean New Zealand are lacking in their bowling armoury. In fact, their pace battery still looks sharp enough to trouble any team in the series. Kyle Jamieson and Matt Henry are particularly well suited to the pitch at HSC with its hard surface and consistent bounce. Honestly, it’s hard to see how Zimbabwe will handle Ferguson’s pace and variations. Even though he can bowl only four overs, each over could prove critical. In low-scoring venues like HSC, every single run matters.
ZIM vs NZ – Final Thoughts
Analysing matches involving Zimbabwe is always a tricky job. The gulf in class among the three teams is quite evident. While Zimbabwe did notch up a win against India, their overall head-to-head stats tell a different story. They’ve never beaten New Zealand or South Africa in T20Is, home or away.
That said, writing them off entirely may not be fair either. They do have the home advantage and are much more familiar with the conditions at HSC. There is a small window of opportunity but the probability remains low. Hopefully, Zimbabwe continue to gain valuable experience by playing against stronger sides. With time, who knows, we might witness the rise of a new dark horse in world cricket.

ZIM vs NZ 2025 6th T20I – Key Player
Zimbabwe’s Key Players to Watch
- Sikandar Raza – Sikandar Raza is the core of Zimbabwe’s T20I team, providing leadership and all-round contributions. In his last 10 T20Is, he has averaged over 35 with the bat and taken key wickets including 3 for 28 vs Ireland. Against New Zealand in 2022, he scored 45 and took 2 for 26. He anchors the innings and breaks partnerships, making him vital at Harare where his controlled spin and calm presence are needed.
- Blessing Muzarabani – Blessing Muzarabani leads Zimbabwe’s pace attack with strong new-ball spells. He has taken 9 wickets in his last 8 games with an economy of 6.5. His bounce and seam movement trouble right-handers such as Allen and Mitchell. He took 2 for 18 against New Zealand previously and is also effective in death overs through wide yorkers and slower balls.
- Ryan Burl – Ryan Burl is a dependable middle-order batter who averages 28 in his last 5 T20Is with a strike rate near 135. He plays left-arm seamers like Jamieson well and scored an unbeaten 35 against New Zealand. He also offers part-time off-spin and can exploit slow surfaces like Harare’s to help control the middle overs.
- Richard Ngarava – Richard Ngarava is a left-arm quick who holds a 7.1 economy in his last 6 T20Is. He performs well against right-handers like Seifert and Mitchell and mixes pace smartly on slow pitches. His best figures of 3 for 28 came against New Zealand and he remains reliable in both powerplay and death phases.

New Zealand’s Key Players to Watch
- Finn Allen – Finn Allen is an explosive opener who recently scored 83 against England with a strike rate over 180. He excels against left-arm pace like Ngarava and once hit 47 from just 20 balls against Zimbabwe. His aggressive start can quickly shift momentum in New Zealand’s favor.
- Daryl Mitchell – Daryl Mitchell averages 40 over his last 10 T20Is and handles Zimbabwe’s key bowlers such as Raza and Muzarabani effectively. He averages 35 against Zimbabwe and also offers useful medium pace, which could be effective on Harare’s slow pitch.
- Ish Sodhi – Ish Sodhi recently claimed 4 for 28 against West Indies and performs well against Zimbabwe’s left-handers like Raza and Burl. While Harare is not known for sharp spin, his control keeps his economy under 6 and can contain Zimbabwe in the middle overs.
- Kyle Jamieson – Kyle Jamieson uses his height to generate bounce and has figures of 2 for 18 against Pakistan. He is especially effective against Zimbabwe’s lower order such as Marumani and can deliver tight overs in the death to close out games.

ZIM vs NZ 2025 6th T20I – Venue History&Analysis: Harare Sports Club Cricket Stadium
Stadium Capacity: Approximately 10,000 spectators
Stadium Address: 3 Lanark Road, Harare, Zimbabwe
Stadium History:
As mentioned in the previous match preview, NZ vs RSA 2025 5th T20I Tri-Series – South Africa with a strong record against New Zealand will they show some weakness this time?, matches held at HSC have been relatively rare. One reason is Zimbabwe’s suspension by the ICC. Another reason dates back to the year 2000 when the Zimbabwe Cricket Board planned to upgrade the facilities at HSC, such as increasing seating capacity and installing floodlights for night matches.
However, the proposal was rejected due to security concerns because the stadium is located just across the street from the Zimbabwean presidential palace. It was not until 2023 that the upgrades were finally approved. As a result, T20I matches at this venue have remained relatively limited during that period.
Stadium Features:
HSC’s pitch characteristics have been mentioned several times in previous articles. The soil is hard, bounce is consistent, and there is minimal turn, which makes it unfavorable for spinners who rely on surface assistance to generate variation. The nature of the pitch tends to make deliveries more predictable. For a deeper understanding, you can refer to the pitch analysis in the article RSA vs NZ 2025 2nd T20I Tri-Series – A High-Voltage Clash for Tempo Supremacy!
Advantage Analysis:
In terms of home ground advantage, Zimbabwe clearly holds the upper hand. First, they are the host nation, and second, they have far more match experience at HSC. In particular, Luke Jongwe is a major threat as he has taken 26 wickets at this venue, making him a dangerous bowler. For New Zealand, Lockie Ferguson and Ish Sodhi are the bowlers whose styles best suit this kind of surface and could pose a real threat.
Although data from HSC is limited, the ECON figures from their last five T20Is reveal stark differences. Jongwe’s ECON is 7.4, Sodhi’s is 8.35, while Ferguson’s is just 2.9. Despite Sodhi and Jongwe having similar numbers with Jongwe slightly better, Ferguson’s incredibly low ECON of 2.9 is a game-changer. This huge gap makes me believe New Zealand has what it takes to neutralize all of Zimbabwe’s home advantages.
