Zimbabwe kicked off their T20I series against Namibia in style, grabbing a 33-run win in Bulawayo and going 1-0 up. Batting first, they lit up the scoreboard with a fiery 211/3 in 20 overs. Brian Bennett was the headline act, smashing a thunderous 94 off just 51 balls, boundaries galore with 8 fours and 4 sixes! Tadiwanashe Marumani wasn’t far behind, calmly adding 62 off 48 as the duo stitched together a 124-run opening stand. Late cameos from Ryan Burl and captain Sikandar Raza added the cherry on top and pushed Zimbabwe past the 200 mark.
A sixth T20I half-century for Brian Bennett 👏

Namibia had a decent go at the chase, especially with Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton showing some spark with a quick 38. But the wickets kept tumbling just when things looked promising. Raza and Wellington Masakadza struck at key moments, while Muzarabani kept things tight with two wickets of his own. Despite some resistance from skipper Erasmus and Zane Green, Namibia just couldn’t keep up with the required rate, finishing on 178/7. A strong all-round show from Zimbabwe, and now all eyes are on game two!
Zimbabwe win the first T20I against Namibia by 33 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series.

ZIM vs NAM 2025 1st T20I – Two Teams, Two Forms
Coming into this series, Namibia are riding high after a 3-0 win over Canada in March, showing their consistency against lower-ranked sides. Zimbabwe, on the other hand, recently fell 1-2 to Sri Lanka, but the results don’t tell the full story. In fact, Zimbabwe could have turned the series around had they held their nerve in the opening game. That narrow fight showed they are no easy pushovers and can compete even as underdogs. With both teams bringing contrasting forms into this contest, the big question is who will set the tone in the opening clash.

ZIM vs NAM – Spin Battle at Queen’s Sports Club
The series opener takes place at Queen’s Sports Club in Bulawayo, a venue known for helping spinners. Zimbabwe have a clear edge here with Sikandar Raza, their captain and star all-rounder, supported by Sean Williams and youngster Tinotenda Maposa, all capable of tightening the screws with spin. If they settle into rhythm, Namibia’s middle order could struggle to score freely. For Namibia, the key lies in attacking Zimbabwe’s seamers early. Their openers must score quickly before the spinners take charge. If Namibia delay and get bogged down, the home side’s spin trio will likely decide the game.

ZIM vs NAM – The History Gonna Flip Now
Looking back at past T20I, Namibia hold a 3-2 edge over Zimbabwe, showing they had the upper hand two years ago. On the other hand, Zimbabwe won 2 games as guest back then, and they changed a lot since then. Zimbabwe have sharpened their batting with new young opener Brian Bennett, who smashed 81 against Sri Lanka, while Sikandar Raza continues to deliver with both bat and ball. Namibia still bank on Nikolaas Davin, though they won the series of Canada with Nikolaas, but he only scored 88 runs total in 3 games as opener. Plus, his retired-out decision in last ICC Men’s T20I game and absence of recents matches highlighted his inconsistency. Namibia is likely to fall for that.

ZIM vs NAM – Conclusion
This first T20I sets up as a clash of momentum versus progression. Zimbabwe look like a rising force, improving in batting depth and spin options, while Namibia facing the risk of falling behind if they don’t evolve. With Bennett’s fearless stroke play, Williams’ experience, and Raza’s all-round brilliance, Zimbabwe have the stronger hand at Queen’s Sports Club. Hope that Namibia’s batting firepower find rhythm, especially their openers can start strong. They might have a chance to fight. We all expect a hard-fought contest, but Zimbabwe’s spinners and home advantage may tilt the balance their way in this opening game.
