updated:Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka by 16 runs.

Bangladesh pulled off a gritty 16-run win over Sri Lanka in a thriller that had more twists than a K-drama. After scraping their way to 248, thanks to solid knocks from Emon (67) and Hridoy (51). It was left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam who stole the show. He bounced back from a rough start to tear through Sri Lanka’s middle order, grabbing 5 for 39. And let’s not forget Sakib’s late-innings fireworks: a handy 33* off 21 that gave Bangladesh just enough cushion.

Sri Lanka came out swinging, especially Kusal Mendis, who smoked a record-breaking 50 off just 20 balls! But after a fiery start, the middle order fizzled. Janith Liyanage fought hard with a classy 78, but when he fell near the end, the chase crumbled. Asitha Fernando’s 4-wicket haul was in vain, and despite some late drama, Bangladesh held their nerve to level the series 1-1. Next stop: the decider in Pallekele!

SL vs BAN 2025 2nd ODI: Same venue, but will Bangladesh be better or worse this time?
The 2nd ODI between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh is scheduled for July 5th, once again at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo. The venue shifts to Pallekele only for the 3rd game. Even though the second match is being played at the same ground, it might actually be a blessing for Bangladesh. Regardless of the result in the first ODI, they’ll get an immediate chance to review their performance and work on the mistakes. So there’s every chance they could come back stronger in the second game — or maybe even have a worse outing. But then again, that’s how cricket is, no?

SL vs BAN 2025 2nd ODI Key Players to Watch
Sri Lanka’s Key Players to Watch
- Pathum Nissanka – Nissanka is a rock at the top, especially at Premadasa where the pitch can be slow early on. He’s got the patience to build an innings and can accelerate later. His ability to play spin well (crucial against Bangladesh’s spinners) makes him a big threat. If he gets going, Sri Lanka will have a strong foundation.
- Charith Asalanka – Asalanka is clutch in ODIs—he stabilizes collapses and attacks when needed. Premadasa’s middle-overs slowdown suits his style, as he rotates strike well and targets spinners. After a possible top-order wobble, he could be the glue holding the innings together.
- Wanindu Hasaranga – Hasaranga is a game-changer—his leg-spin thrives at Premadasa (grip & turn), and he’s a handy lower-order hitter. Bangladesh’s middle-order struggles against wrist spin, so he could rip through them. Plus, his fielding is electric.
- Dushmantha Chameera – Chameera’s pace and variations work well here—early swing with the new ball and clever slower ones in the death. If the pitch offers any uneven bounce, his short balls could trouble Bangladesh’s batters. A key wicket-taker.

Bangladesh’s Key Players to Watch
- Litton Das – Litton is Bangladesh’s most consistent ODI batter. At Premadasa, where starts are crucial, his ability to play both pace and spin makes him vital. If he anchors the innings, Bangladesh can post/ chase big.
- Najmul Hossain Shanto – Shanto is classy against spin and can build long innings—perfect for Premadasa’s sluggish middle overs. He’s improved against pace too, so if he settles in, Sri Lanka’s bowlers will have a tough time dislodging him.
- Shakib Al Hasan – Shakib is the man for Premadasa—his bowling loves the grip here, and his batting is clutch under pressure. He’ll control the middle overs and might even chip in with a match-winning 50. A true legend in these conditions.
- Taskin Ahmed – Taskin’s bounce and seam movement could exploit any early moisture. Sri Lanka’s batters sometimes struggle against extra pace, and if he strikes early, Bangladesh could dominate. His death bowling is improving too.
