For most RCB fans, just spotting a cricket star in the distance is a once-in-a-lifetime moment. So imagine picking up your phone and hearing Virat Kohli on the other end. That’s the unreal twist two young fans in Chhattisgarh experienced. All thanks to Rajat Patidar’s SIM card.

It All Started With a New SIM
On June 28, Manish Bisi, a 21-year-old from Madagaon village, walked into a mobile shop in Deobhog to buy a new Jio SIM card. Nothing fancy. Just a regular day. But when he set up WhatsApp, something odd popped up. The profile picture wasn’t his. It was none other than RCB’s captain: Rajat Patidar. At first, Manish and his friend Khemraj laughed it off. “Maybe the shop guy pranked us,” they thought. But it wasn’t a prank. That SIM had a past, and a famous one.
A guy from Chhattisgarh purchased a new sim which turned out to be Rajat Patidar’s old number.

Wait… Is That Kohli Calling?!
Soon after installing the app, they began receiving calls. Not just random ones, but from names every cricket fan knows by heart. They got calls from Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and Yash Dayal. At first, the two friends assumed someone was playing an elaborate joke. But then…
“When AB de Villiers called, he spoke in English. We couldn’t understand a word, but we were so thrilled,” said Khemraj.
“I never imagined I would speak to Virat Kohli one day, and that too from our village,” he added.
Even Kohli and Yash Dayal asked them why they were using Patidar’s number.
“The callers who identified themselves as Virat Kohli and Yash Dayal asked us why we were using Patidar’s number. We explained to them we had bought a new SIM, and this is our number.”
Manish, overwhelmed by the situation, often handed the phone to his friend. “When Manish used to get calls, he would hand over the phone to me,” Khemraj explained. For lifelong RCB fans, this was pure gold. They weren’t just receiving calls; they were having conversations with cricket royalty.

When Patidar Himself Called
Then came the twist. On July 15, Patidar himself called the number. He wasn’t amused.
Patidar asked, “Brother, please return my SIM.”
Still thinking it was a joke, the friends replied:
“And we’re MS Dhoni.”
But then Patidar got serious. He warned that police would get involved, and minutes later, local officers actually arrived at Manish’s house. Turns out, this wasn’t any shady hacking. It was just how things work. According to Gariaband Deputy Superintendent of Police Neha Sinha, the SIM had been deactivated after 90 days of inactivity, which is standard practice in India. After that, Rajat Patidar’s SIM card was reassigned, and Manish happened to be the lucky buyer.

“Manish was actually getting calls from cricketers who were in contact with Rajat Patidar,” said Neha Sinha. “There was no legal issue or fault on anyone’s part. This was simply a result of standard telecom procedures.”
Real or Just a Dream?
Some people questioned whether the boys truly spoke to Kohli and ABD. But there’s no denying one thing; they definitely ended up using Rajat Patidar’s SIM card, and that number was previously in use by RCB’s own captain.

“Even if it was all due to a mix-up, these conversations happened out of sheer luck. People just dream of seeing them; we got to speak to them,” said Manish’s brother, Deshbandhu Bisi.
And really, for these small-town RCB fans, what happened next was just the icing on the cake. The number has since been returned. No legal trouble, no drama, just a once-in-a-lifetime series of happy accidents. And now, Manish and Khemraj aren’t just two guys from a village. They’re the guys who accidentally talked to Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers… because of Rajat Patidar’s SIM card.
