Not many people would have imagined this a month ago. Punjab Kings looked unstoppable earlier in the season with seven straight wins, yet now they suddenly find themselves trapped in a brutal five-match losing streak. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians may already be out of the playoff race, but their chase in Dharamsala reminded everyone just how dangerous this side still is. The IPL 2026 PBKS vs MI highlights delivered another dramatic twist, while the match result left Punjab fans nervously checking the points table once again.
IPL 2026 PBKS vs MI Highlights

PBKS Start Brightly Again
Punjab actually began the night in decent rhythm. Priyansh Arya looked sharp early on, punching Deepak Chahar through the covers and picking up boundaries against Jasprit Bumrah as well. The powerplay felt slightly strange though. PBKS scored quickly enough, but there was not a single six in the first six overs despite all the attacking intent.
The disguise: 💯. The execution: 💯

The first breakthrough arrived right at the end of the powerplay when Chahar cleverly used a knuckleball to bowl Priyansh for 22. Even then, PBKS were still reasonably placed at 55 for 1. Prabhsimran Singh carried on aggressively after that. He survived two dropped catches, first from Naman Dhir and later from Corbin Bosch, and MI paid heavily for those mistakes. Once Prabhsimran settled, the boundaries started flowing. He targeted Raghu Sharma with consecutive sixes and brought up a lively half-century from only 29 deliveries.

At 107 for 1, PBKS looked fully in control. That phase completely changed the mood of the IPL 2026 PBKS vs MI highlights because it genuinely seemed like Punjab were heading towards 220 or more.

Shardul Changes Everything
Then came the collapse. Shardul Thakur completely flipped the game in the middle overs using clever cross-seam deliveries on the Dharamsala pitch. First, he removed Prabhsimran with a miscued shot towards deep third. Two balls later, Shreyas Iyer was cleaned up for just four after a delivery straightened sharply off the surface.

Suddenly, panic crept into the innings. Raj Angad Bawa then produced one of the best balls of the evening to dismiss Cooper Connolly, while Shardul kept striking from the other end. Suryansh Shedge and Marco Jansen both departed cheaply as PBKS collapsed from 107 for 1 to 140 for 7. The momentum swing was enormous. One moment Punjab were cruising, the next they were desperately trying to avoid a disastrous finish.

Omarzai Gives PBKS Hope
Just when the innings looked finished, Azmatullah Omarzai produced a counterattack that dragged PBKS back into the contest. Playing his first match of the season, the Afghanistan all-rounder smashed 38 from only 17 balls and attacked the MI seamers fearlessly.

Vishnu Vinod and Xavier Bartlett also chipped in late boundaries, especially during a chaotic 19th over where PBKS collected 22 runs. From nowhere, Punjab somehow reached 200 for 8. Looking at the conditions, that total still felt competitive. The crowd certainly believed so, and for a while the PBKS vs MI match result appeared to be swinging Punjab’s way.

Rickelton And Tilak Take Charge
Mumbai’s chase started with Ryan Rickelton playing aggressively from ball one. Rohit Sharma struggled for timing early on, but Rickelton completely dominated the powerplay. His leg-side hitting was particularly brutal, especially against Arshdeep Singh and Marco Jansen. MI raced to 59 in the powerplay before Omarzai finally dismissed Rickelton for 48.

Punjab then clawed their way back into the game beautifully. Jansen removed Naman Dhir, while Yuzvendra Chahal bowled Rohit Sharma with a clever delivery that skidded on sharply. At 89 for 3, the match suddenly became tense again. Tilak Varma, though, stayed calm throughout the chase.

That was probably the most impressive part of his innings. He never looked rushed, even when the asking rate climbed. He kept rotating strike, waited patiently for loose deliveries and punished almost every error. With MI needing 51 from the final three overs, PBKS were still favourites. Then the game exploded again.

The Over That Broke PBKS
Shreyas Iyer made a bold call by bowling Chahal against two left-handers. It backfired instantly. Tilak Varma and Sherfane Rutherford smashed 20 runs from that over, completely changing the pressure equation. Even after Omarzai delivered an outstanding 17th over, MI still believed.

Marco Jansen’s 18th over turned into another disaster for PBKS. Will Jacks and Tilak attacked relentlessly, collecting boundaries and sixes almost at will. Suddenly, Mumbai were back in control. The final over summed up Punjab’s recent struggles perfectly. Bartlett had 14 to defend, but started with a full toss that Jacks launched over long-off. Tilak then finished things dramatically with back-to-back sixes.

What Happens To PBKS Now?
This defeat has left PBKS in a seriously uncomfortable position. They still remain inside the top four for now with 13 points, but Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals are breathing right behind them with games in hand. Momentum has completely disappeared at the worst possible stage of the tournament. The qualification equation is now fairly simple.

If PBKS win both remaining matches, they should comfortably qualify for the playoffs with 17 points. One win and one defeat would leave them stuck on 15 points, meaning net run rate and other results could decide everything. Lose both, and their season is almost certainly over.

The worrying part for Punjab is not just the results. Their bowling at the death has looked increasingly fragile, while the middle order keeps collapsing under pressure. Five straight defeats can also damage confidence very quickly. At the start of the season, PBKS looked like genuine title contenders. Right now, they simply look like a side desperately trying to stop the slide before it is too late.
