After reaching their first-ever final in the inaugural edition in 2008, Chennai Super Kings confirmed their second final ticket in 2010, where they went on to beat Mumbai Indians at DY Patil Stadium by 22 runs to secure their first IPL title. They had a solid core of Indian players, including the likes of Suresh Raina (520 runs), Murali Vijay (458 runs), Subramaniam Badrinath (356 runs), and their skipper MS Dhoni (287 runs), who all played a good hand during the successful campaign.

Even their bowling department had the best in the business, with the likes of Muthiah Muralidaran (15 wickets) and Ravichandran Ashwin (13 wickets), who contributed immensely to the winning cause. Not to forget the contributions from the Aussie duo of Matthew Hayden (346 runs) and Doug Bollinger (12 wickets).

Coming into 2011 as defending champions in IPL, Chennai Super Kings retained the bulk of their squad, and no wonder they became back-to-back IPL winners. The Yellow Army went on to beat their rivals, RCB, by 58 runs in the final held at Chepauk. In a scintillating final held at Hyderabad, the Mumbai Indians beat the Chennai Super Kings by a mere one run to secure their overall 4th IPL title in 2019. Backed up by some strong individual performances from Quinton de Kock (529 runs), Suryakumar Yadav (424 runs), Rohit Sharma (405 runs), Hardik Pandya (402 runs and 14 wickets), and Jasprit Bumrah (19 wickets) throughout the season, they thoroughly deserve to be on the winning side.
