The defending champions barely gave Gujarat Titans a chance. From the win-probability charts to the scoreline itself, RCB vs GT felt one-sided almost throughout the night. By the end of the match, the Qualifier 1 match result had pushed Royal Challengers Bengaluru one step closer to back-to-back IPL titles, while Gujarat were left searching for answers after a difficult evening in Dharamsala.

The opening moments of RCB vs GT already hinted at the direction the game was heading. Gujarat Titans won the toss and chose to bowl first on a surface that had generally favoured chasing teams. On paper, it made sense. RCB, though, batted as if they had no interest in waiting around.

With Phil Salt unavailable, Venkatesh Iyer was pushed up the order and immediately attacked the new ball. He hit three boundaries inside the first two overs and quickly disrupted Gujarat’s preferred lengths. Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj, normally so reliable in the powerplay, suddenly looked under pressure.

Virat Kohli began slightly cautiously, but Devdutt Padikkal settled in quickly at the other end. By the fifth over, RCB had already crossed 60, and the tempo never really slowed. One of the major talking points from the early IPL 2026 Qualifier 1 highlights was how aggressively RCB targeted Gujarat’s fast bowlers before Rashid Khan could properly settle into the innings.

Kohli And Padikkal Build The Platform

As the powerplay continued, the match became increasingly uncomfortable for Gujarat. Kohli started finding boundaries square of the wicket, while Padikkal repeatedly attacked anything slightly short or wide. RCB finished the powerplay on 76 for 1, a score that already placed pressure on GT’s bowling plans.

To Gujarat’s credit, they briefly pulled things back through Jason Holder and Rashid Khan. Holder removed both Kohli and Padikkal in the middle overs, reducing RCB to 99 for 3 after ten overs. Rashid also managed a tidy spell early on, giving away very little boundary scoring. At that stage, the Qualifier 1 match result still looked recoverable for Gujarat Titans. The match had not completely slipped away yet.

Patidar Completely Changed The Game

Then Rajat Patidar happened. The RCB captain started relatively quietly before exploding during the final six overs. This phase became the defining moment in almost every list of IPL 2026 Qualifier 1 highlights afterwards.

Patidar was dropped twice during the 14th over, and Gujarat paid heavily for those mistakes. Kulwant Khejroliya’s following over completely shifted momentum after two no-balls and multiple boundaries allowed RCB to break free again. Once Patidar found rhythm, the scoring accelerated rapidly.

He attacked Rashid Khan over extra cover, pulled Rabada into the stands, and punished slower deliveries with unusual ease. Krunal Pandya quietly supported him with 43 from 28 balls, but the innings belonged entirely to Patidar. By the time RCB finished on 254 for 5, the highest playoff total in IPL history, the Qualifier 1 match result already looked close to decided. Patidar remained unbeaten on 93 from just 33 balls, including nine sixes.

GT’s Chase Fell Apart Early

For Gujarat Titans, the chase never really developed. The first over of the innings actually started positively, with Sai Sudharsan hitting boundaries early. But RCB’s fast bowlers quickly tightened things up. Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Shubman Gill with a wobble-seam delivery that crashed into leg stump, continuing a surprisingly dominant head-to-head record against the GT captain.

One of the clearest IPL 2026 Qualifier 1 highlights came during the powerplay collapse. Jos Buttler briefly counterattacked with 29 from 11 balls, but Josh Hazlewood removed him before the innings could gain momentum. Then came the decisive spell.

Rasikh Salam bowled a double-wicket maiden, GT lost half the side inside the powerplay, and the required run rate climbed beyond control almost immediately. By that stage of RCB vs GT, the contest had turned into damage limitation rather than a genuine chase. Jacob Duffy added three wickets of his own, while Krunal Pandya controlled the middle overs with the ball. Gujarat eventually finished on 162, losing by 92 runs.

Despite the heavy defeat, Gujarat still remain alive because of their top-two finish in the league stage. The next challenge will be much tougher mentally after such a one-sided night, but the opportunity is still there.

If GT can defeat the winner of SRH vs RR in Qualifier 2, they will still secure a place in the IPL 2026 final. After this Qualifier 1 match result, though, they will need a far sharper performance with both bat and ball if they want another shot at RCB.
