Chepauk is usually one of the loudest grounds in the IPL, but not on this night. Sunrisers Hyderabad completely silenced the Chennai crowd with a ruthless chase that secured their playoff place in style. The atmosphere before the game felt emotional, tense and hopeful all at once, yet by the end, it was SRH celebrating in front of thousands of stunned CSK supporters. If anyone missed the IPL 2026 CSK vs SRH highlights, this was one of those nights where Hyderabad looked calm, clinical and absolutely unfazed by the occasion.
IPL 2026 CSK vs SRH Highlights

CSK Started Brightly… Then Lost Control
CSK actually began the evening with decent intent after choosing to bat first on a black-soil Chepauk surface that looked dry, slow and slightly awkward for strokeplay. Sanju Samson came out swinging immediately and gave the innings early life with a blistering start against Nitish Reddy. Suddenly, the crowd found its voice. Boundaries were flying, and for a brief moment it looked like CSK had guessed the conditions perfectly.

But Pat Cummins changed the mood almost instantly. Seeing Samson attack aggressively, Cummins brought himself into the attack in the third over and produced exactly the sort of delivery captains dream about — hard length, slight movement, edge taken. Samson departed after a rapid cameo, and from there CSK slowly lost their grip on the innings.

One of the biggest talking points from the IPL 2026 CSK vs SRH highlights was just how smart SRH’s pace bowling became after the powerplay. Rather than forcing outright pace into the wicket, Cummins, Sakib Hussain and Eshan Malinga kept bowling cutters and slower deliveries into the pitch. The ball kept sticking slightly, making timing incredibly difficult.

Gaikwad’s Knock Raised Eyebrows
Ruturaj Gaikwad’s innings summed up CSK’s bigger issue perfectly. While modern IPL openers are usually looking to dominate the powerplay, Gaikwad played an older-style innings where he seemed desperate to “get in” before accelerating later. The problem? On a difficult surface, pressure builds quickly. He crawled to 15 from 21 deliveries, and the innings never really recovered its momentum afterwards.

Even though Dewald Brevis later injected energy into the innings with a lively 44 from 27 balls, CSK always felt around 15 runs short. Brevis was excellent against spin and handled the slower bouncers better than most batters on the night, especially during his partnership with Shivam Dube. For a while, the pair threatened to drag CSK towards 200. Then SRH pulled out the oldest fast-bowling trick in the book.

SRH’s Fast Bowlers Were Seriously Clever
This was probably the tactical moment that decided the game. After repeatedly bowling cutters and slower balls, SRH suddenly mixed in quicker deliveries aimed straight at the stumps. Both Brevis and Dube were completely caught off guard by the change in pace. Their stumps were rattled, momentum disappeared, and CSK’s innings collapsed right at the death.

That spell from Sakib Hussain and Eshan Malinga deserves massive credit in the IPL 2026 CSK vs SRH highlights package because it completely changed the flow of the game. Instead of chasing 195 or more, SRH only needed 181. At Chepauk, that still wasn’t easy. But SRH handled the pressure brilliantly.

Klaasen Changed Everything
The chase started nervously when Travis Head fell early, but SRH never panicked. Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan rebuilt carefully before Heinrich Klaasen walked in and completely shifted the momentum. Honestly, Klaasen batted like the pitch belonged to him.

While nearly every batter struggled to trust the bounce, Klaasen attacked Noor Ahmad and the CSK spinners with outrageous confidence. Reverse sweeps, flat drives, quick footwork — he looked one step ahead the entire time. His 47 from just 26 deliveries may not officially count as a fifty, but it felt like the defining innings of the match.

There was one moment where CSK nearly grabbed control again when Klaasen almost picked out a fielder in the deep. The catch went down. Chepauk groaned. Klaasen immediately punished them with another boundary. That sequence basically summed up the evening.

Ishan Kishan Played The Perfect Supporting Role
While Klaasen grabbed the headlines, Ishan Kishan quietly played one of his smartest IPL innings in recent memory. He wasn’t reckless, didn’t try forcing big shots unnecessarily, and rotated strike beautifully while waiting for loose deliveries. His unbeaten composure frustrated CSK more and more as the chase progressed.

By the final few overs, the required equation looked fully under control. Kishan accelerated at exactly the right time, smashing boundaries whenever Chennai threatened a comeback. His 70 from 47 balls ended up being the backbone of the chase. The CSK vs SRH match result eventually showed a comfortable five-wicket victory, but the game actually felt tense for long stretches until Kishan shut the door completely.

| Chennai Super Kings | Sunrisers Hyderabad |
| 180/7 | 181/5 |
The worrying thing for Chennai is that this defeat did not feel unlucky. It exposed several issues that have quietly followed them throughout the season. Firstly, their batting approach often looks stuck between eras. Players like Gaikwad still prefer “settling in”, but modern IPL games move far too quickly for that approach unless someone else attacks from the other end consistently.

Secondly, CSK’s middle overs bowling failed to remove the two players that mattered most — Klaasen and Kishan. On a difficult pitch, that simply cannot happen. Fielding errors also hurt badly. Dropped chances against a side like SRH are basically invitations to lose. The IPL 2026 CSK vs SRH highlights showed a team that looked reactive rather than proactive for most of the evening.

Are CSK Still Alive?
Technically, yes. The CSK vs SRH match result did not officially eliminate Chennai, but their situation now looks extremely uncomfortable. They still need results elsewhere to go in their favour, and they almost certainly have to win their final league game as well.

More importantly, they need to rediscover confidence quickly. Because right now, SRH look like a side peaking at exactly the right time, while CSK look like a team desperately searching for answers.
