Then came the Barry McCarthy demolition act. The seamer ripped through the West Indies top order, bagging 4 for 32 as the visitors slumped to 31 for 5. Though Roston Chase (55) and Matthew Forde (38) stitched a steady stand, the damage was already done. Debutant Thomas Mayes picked up a wicket too, while Dockrell cleaned up the tail. West Indies folded for just 179 in 34 overs, giving Ireland one of their biggest ODI wins ever. A solid all-round performance and a great way to start the series for the Boys in Green!

IRE vs WI 2025 1st ODI: Ireland and the West Indies set to clash again after 4 years.
Ireland vs West Indies, After a gap of 4 years, these two teams will once again face off in an ODI. The last time they played an ODI series was also at the Malahide Cricket Club in Dublin, and this time, they return to the very same venue where they clashed four years ago. Back then, West Indies emerged victorious with two wins, while Ireland managed to bag one. The series was clinched by the West Indies, but the final match had to be decided using the D/L method due to heavy rain, with the West Indies winning by just 1 wicket. Looking at how close that game was, this upcoming encounter is sure to be a thrilling one, with both teams eager to prove themselves on this familiar ground after four years!

Ireland’s Key Players to Watch
- Paul Stirling – Ireland’s most explosive batter, and his experience at Malahide (where the ball comes onto the bat nicely) makes him vital. He can dominate the powerplay, putting pressure on WI’s bowlers early. His off-spin might also be handy on a pitch that occasionally grips.
- Harry Tector – Ireland’s rock at No. 4, blending aggression with stability. Malahide’s true bounce suits his crisp drives and pulls. If Ireland lose early wickets, his ability to rebuild and accelerate will be crucial.
- Josh Little – Swing and pace are key against WI’s power hitters. Malahide’s conditions often assist seamers early on, and his death-overs yorkers could stifle WI’s late charge.
- Gareth Delany – Leg-spin and lower-order hitting are perfect for Malahide’s slightly slower middle overs. His bowling could exploit any turn, and his cameos (like his 40-ball 70 vs WI in 2023) change games.

West Indies’s Key Players to Watch
- Shai Hope – Class and consistency make him WI’s backbone. At Malahide, where timing matters more than brute force, his elegant strokeplay can anchor the innings. Plus, his leadership is vital in tight games.
- Nicholas Pooran – 360-degree hitting is lethal, especially on Malahide’s small boundaries. If spinners like Delany/Dockrell operate in the middle overs, his ability to smash spin will be game-changing.
- Alzarri Joseph – Raw pace and bounce can rattle Ireland’s batters. Malahide’s pitch occasionally offers extra carry, and his yorkers (like his 6/43 vs Ireland in 2022) could decide the match.
- Akeal Hosein – Accuracy and subtle turn could stifle Ireland’s middle order. Malahide’s surface sometimes grips, and his economy (often under 4.5 RPO) builds pressure for wickets.
