Super Smash Final Match Results

Tom Bruce’s Central Districts emerged victorious at the Basin Reserve on Sunday in the 2024–25 men’s Super Smash Final, defeating a formidable Canterbury Kings side stacked with international experience. Despite missing key players like Doug Bracewell (away at SA20), Ajaz Patel (injured), and the retiring Seth Rance, the Stags showcased depth and resilience. They dominantly secured the title with a disciplined bowling effort and a composed chase.
2024-2025 Super Smash Final Highlights

With the initial two wickets falling inside three overs for a mere 14 runs, Canterbury Kings made a terrible start to their innings. Daryl Mitchell steadied the innings following Chad Bowes’ removal in the sixth over. On a difficult two-paced pitch where the hitters had trouble finding their timing, Central Districts bowling held the Kings to a respectable 135-8.

Except for a 59-run stand between Cole McConchie and Daryl Mitchell, Canterbury struggled to settle against the Stags’ tight bowling. Matt Boyle left cheaply after being exposed by Angus Schaw, and Mitch Hay was fired early. Chad Bowes’ dismissal at 39-3 gave the Stags the upper hand over Canterbury. Mitchell and McConchie were removed in consecutive overs despite their attempts to rally, adding 59 for the fourth wicket.

Mitchell fell four runs short of fifty after being caught off a full toss by Toby Findlay, and McConchie was run out by a direct hit from skipper Bruce. Blair Tickner was outstanding, giving up just 17 runs in four overs despite only taking one wicket. The Kings finished strongly, with Findlay and Brett Randell taking five of their eight wickets. However, it wasn’t enough to win the Super Smash final match.

Despite Jack Boyle’s dismissal without additional assistance, Will Young began his pursuit in a positive mood. Dane Cleaver played the game-winning innings, scoring 43 off 34 balls. The Canterbury Kings Super Smash final match curse persisted as they fell to the Central Districts in their sixth straight decider, but this helped the Central Districts chase the aim. For the first time in six years, Northern Districtss has won a title. Auckland won the T20 championship last season because of rain, and Canterbury hasn’t won since 2006.
