Huge Runs, but Balance needed
West Indies piled up a competitive score in tricky conditions as Shai Hope controlled the innings with class and conviction. His century lifted the visitors from danger and forced New Zealand into deep thought during the chase. But runs alone were not enough. The bowling and fielding lacked consistency, especially in the final overs where pressure slipped away. A balanced performance would have made this match theirs.
Fought all the way to the end in Napier.

Devon Conway Making it, New Zealand Batting Good Form
Devon Conway brought stability to a chase that never felt simple. Early movement troubled him, but once he settled, his timing returned and boundaries followed. His stand with Rachin Ravindra brought rhythm, confidence and control into New Zealand’s innings. Conway’s 90 looked destined to become a hundred before he fell against the flow, yet his impact shaped the chase perfectly and allowed Santner and Latham to close the door.

Blackcaps without Daryl? All Good!
New Zealand missed Daryl Mitchell’s presence as he watched the match from the sidelines, but the rest of the squad stepped up with confidence. Conway and Ravindra gave the chase a clean start, while Latham and Santner finished with experience and clarity. Jamieson, Henry and Smith delivered sharp spells earlier to pull things back. The Blackcaps showed that even without one of their main men, the structure remains strong.
Series secured! A 50-run partnership between Tom Latham and Mitch Santner brings us home with 4 balls to spare.

Tough to Defend, but Got us a Great Start too
Mitchell Santner, New Zealand captain: “But this is a tough ground to defend. One of those wickets if you spend a bit of time and get in, like Shai, he played a great hundred. They (our openers) got us off to a great start.”
West Indies began with fire as Forde and Seales found sharp movement to trouble Conway and Ravindra early. Their captain even praised Hope for keeping them competitive with a brilliant hundred. But defending at Napier is never easy and losing control late cost them. Still, the opening spell deserves full credit.
