Milind Rege and former legendary cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar, have known each other since they were children. Together, the legends played in Dadar Union Sporting Club. Gavaskar gave a heartfelt homage, saying, “He was like my older brother. We grew up in the same building, attended the same school, and attended the same college. In the compound, we played cricket with tennis balls.” Mumbai as well as the Vidarbha team in the current Ranji Trophy semi-final in Nagpur conducted a moment of silence in Rege’s memory before the start of the third day of play. Notably, it was none other than Rege, who gave the master blaster his first maiden call-up in Ranji Cricket. That said, when Rege passed away, Sachin Tendulkar expressed his sorrow and referred to him as a “True Mumbai Cricketer.”
Sad to hear about Milind Rege Sir’s passing. He was a true Mumbai cricketer with immense contributions to the city’s cricket. He and other CCI members saw potential in me and asked me to play for CCI, which, as I look back now, was a landmark moment in my career.
