Chennai Super Kings are dealing with injury concerns to multiple players, affecting their team combination and plans. Before the season, pacer Nathan Ellis was ruled out of IPL 2026 due to a hamstring injury. His replacement, Spencer Johnson is still recovering from a back injury and will join the squad later this month. Meanwhile, legendary keeper-batter MS Dhoni is working his way back from a calf injury and is expected to be part of the XI or play as an Impact Player in a few weeks’ time. He is yet to go full tilt in the nets and is only facing throwdowns in the training sessions.

Khaleel Ahmed hurt himself during CSK’s previous clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Chennai on April 14. He left the field after bowling five balls of his final over. He did well to finish the game with figures of 1/24 in 3.5 overs, while dismissing Sunil Narine. The 28-year-old showed signs of getting his old form back against KKR, and was likely to be a key wicket-taker for the franchise in the coming games. His experience and skill with the new ball could have helped release pressure off other CSK 2026 bowlers.

In their official statement, CSK confirmed that Khaleel Ahmed ruled out of IPL 2026 due to a right quadricep injury. They also added that it might take him around three months for a full recovery, which will result in him missing the whole season. Now, the cricket fraternity is debating on who could be a better replacement for Khaleel Ahmed for the rest of the season.

3 Players Who Could Be a Replacement for Khaleel Ahmed
Khaleel Ahmed ruled out of IPL 2026 is a major blow to CSK, and it will be difficult for the franchise to find a new ball bowler, who can match his experience and ability to swing the ball in both directions. Alongside Ahmed, Anshul Kamboj has been doing well and is among the highest wicket-takers this season. The right-arm pacer will have a more important role to play for the franchise after Ahmed’s setback. Meanwhile, Jamie Overton and Gurjapneet Singh are also handy options, and one of them could be accommodated in the powerplay overs.

Meanwhile, Noor Ahmad and Akeal Hosein have also done well and form an experienced set of CSK 2026 bowlers spin attack. The left-arm pacer, Mukesh Choudhary could be a like-for-like replacement for Khaleel Ahmed. He has been part of the CSK franchise since the last few years, while picking up 16 wickets in 13 games during the 2022 edition. Choudhary is currently part of the setup and could easily be drafted in the XI due to his ability to pick wickets with the new ball.

However, the team management is likely to announce a replacement for Khaleel Ahmed, as its a long season and untimely injuries can hamper the side in the business stage. Below are three players who could find a way to CSK’s XI in place of Ahmed in IPL 2026.

#1 Simarjeet Singh
Simarjeet has played for CSK in the 2022 and 2024 seasons, picking nine wickets in 10 appearances. He was appreciated for his raw pace and hurried the batters with his bouncers due to his height. In the last season, he picked two wickets in four games for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. As a result, the right-arm pacer went unsold in the IPL 2026 auction. But, he did well across all formats for Delhi in the 2025-26 season, and can be a replacement for Khaleel Ahmed.

#2 Chetan Sakariya
Experienced left-arm pacer Chetan Sakariya is also among the fray to be among CSK 2026 bowlers. He went unsold in the IPL 2026 auction, but has the form and sufficient experience to fill in for Ahmed. Sakariya bagged 12 wickets in seven games of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26 season. In terms of IPL experience, he has picked up 20 wickets in as many games.

#3 RS Ambrish
RS Ambrish impressed with his bowling talent at the U19 World Cup 2026. He picked up 11 wickets in seven games, with best figures of 4/29. The youngster could also be a handy batter in the lower order. As per reports, Ambrish attended the CSK trials last year and is a well-known face among the team management.
