Concerning news has arrived for the Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Team’s key pacer Harshit Rana ruled out of IPL 2026 is now a confirmation due to his knee injury. Rana suffered a knee strain during India’s T20 World Cup warmup game against South Africa. As a result, he was ruled out of the marquee event, which saw India emerging as the champion. After undergoing surgery, he is currently doing rehab and will miss the major portion of the cash-rich league. Let’s take a look at potential replacement for Harshit Rana and who could be a better option as we head towards the 19th season of IPL.

Players Under Consideration by KKR as Replacement for Harshit Rana
According to reports, the Knight Riders team management has pulled their interest towards three pacers, who went unsold in the auction, and can fill in for Harshit Rana in IPL 2026. They are currently said to be undergoing trials and a decision by the franchise would soon be made official.

#1 Simarjeet Singh
Simarjeet Singh is one of the options looked after by KKR as they find a quality player to fill the gap left by Harshit Rana in the bowling department. The tall pacer is an all-format bowler for Delhi in the domestic circuit and fared well in all of them in the 2025-26 season. Simarjeet bagged 12 wickets in four Ranji Trophy games, six wickets in three Vijay Hazare Trophy appearances and three dismissals in as many Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy outings.

Previously, Simarjeet Singh has represented Chennai Super Kings (2022, 24) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (2025). In particular, he was impressive with his pace, swing and got a good bounce from the surface due to his height during his CSK tenure.

#2 KM Asif
KM Asif has turned out to be another player who could replace Rana in the KKR setup. His call-up to trials can be partly credited to his terrific performances for Kerala in the 2025-26 edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Asif picked up 15 wickets in six games, with sensational figures of 5/24 coming against Mumbai, including the dismissal of Suryakumar Yadav. His performances helped Kerala to secure a clinical victory. KM Asif has played for CSK (2018, 21) and Rajasthan Royals (2023) and bagged seven wickets in seven IPL games.

#3 Sandeep Warrier
An experienced campaigner, Sandeep Warrier has been one of the finest pacers in the domestic circuit since the last decade. He has represented Kerala and Tamil Nadu (present) during his career. In fact, the right-arm pacer has played a lone T20I in 2021 as well. Despite not playing any white-ball games in the recent domestic season, Warrier is under consideration by KKR after Harshit Rana ruled out of IPL 2026. In 84 T20s, Sandeep Warrior has accumulated 78 wickets at an economy of 7.34. He has played 10 IPL games (KKR and Gujarat Titans) and bagged eight wickets. In his last appearance in 2024 for GT, he took six wickets in five games at an expensive economy of 10.81.

The images have surfaced on social media of KKR calling Navdeep Saini and Akash Madhwal along with the above three candidates for the trials ahead of IPL 2026. Saini represented Delhi in the 2025-26 domestic season and did well with his control of line-lengths and wicket-taking abilities. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the veteran pacer picked 12 wickets in eight appearances. He produced a match-winning performance of 3/41 and 34* against Saurashtra.

Although Navdeep Saini has picked up only 23 wickets in 32 IPL games (last for RR in 2023), he can be trusted to deliver goods when it matters the most due to his 21-game international career. With optimum pace and toe-crushing yorkers, Saini can be lethal in the death overs.

With Vaibhav Arora/Akash Deep and Cameron Green as options for the powerplay, Saini can be utilized in the middle and the death overs due to his success during this phase. He can form a tandem with Matheesha Pathirana, as both pacers can contain runs and secure breakthroughs to crumble the opposition. With an experienced bowling attack and the inclusion of Navdeep Saini, the setback of Harshit Rana ruled out of IPL 2026 might not pinch KKR much.
