Wellington triumphed over Central Districts by 11 runs in a tense Super Smash encounter at Saxton Oval. Central Districts, chasing 179, were bowled out for 179 with James Hartshorn delivering a match-winning performance, taking 5 wickets for just 24 runs. Hartshorn’s brilliant spell, which included key dismissals in the final overs, halted the Districts’ chase. Despite a strong late push from William Clark (23), Wellington’s bowlers, led by Hartshorn and Logan van Beek, held firm to secure the narrow victory. Hartshorn’s exceptional effort earned him the Player of the Match award.
Central Districts and Wellington are both traditional heavyweights in the Super Smash tournament. The two teams have played each other many times in the past, with each match being extremely competitive and often with very close win-loss ratios.
