After an intense Super 8s clash, it is time to move on to the T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final fixtures. South Africa, England, New Zealand, and India are the four teams remaining to battle it out for the title. All four sides showed immense grit to qualify for T20 World Cup semi-final stage in the 10th edition.

While India and England have both won the T20 World Cup twice, South Africa and New Zealand have a golden opportunity to create history. The Proteas will face the Black Caps in the first semi-final on Wednesday, 4th March, at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Meanwhile, India and England will clash in the second semi-final at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on Thursday, 5th March—a repeat of the 2024 semi-final which India won.
South Africa
The Proteas look unstoppable, having recorded seven consecutive wins. South Africa finished the Group 1 standings in the Super 8s without a loss, advancing to the T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final as the only team to remain unbeaten in the tournament so far.

Captain Aiden Markram has led from the front, smashing 268 runs at an average of 53.6 and a blistering strike rate of 175.16. Ryan Rickelton, a late addition to the squad, has been a revelation as the team’s second-leading scorer with 228 runs. The batting depth is bolstered by Quinton de Kock (171), Dewald Brevis (173), David Miller (168), and Tristan Stubbs (106). On the bowling front, the pace trio of Lungi Ngidi (12 wickets), Corbin Bosch (11), and Marco Jansen (11) have been clinical and will look to maintain that intensity in the knockouts.

England
Despite facing immense pressure from associate nations and the West Indies in the early stages, England found their rhythm. They dominated the Super 8s in Sri Lanka, winning all three Group 2 matches. They have now become the first team to qualify for T20 World Cup semi-final stages for the fifth time in a row.

Harry Brook provided a tournament highlight with a magnificent century against Pakistan and leads the team with 228 runs. Will Jacks has emerged as an unsung hero, contributing 191 runs at an average of 63.66 while taking 7 wickets. While the supporting cast—including Jacob Bethell, Sam Curran, Adil Rashid, and Jofra Archer—has been pivotal, former captain Jos Buttler’s form is a concern; he has managed only 62 runs at a meagre average of 8.85.

New Zealand
New Zealand experienced three different outcomes in the Super 8s (win, loss and a no result), and they finished 2nd in the Super 2 standings with 3 points. They had to depend on Pakistan’s net run-rate to make it to the T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final. Kiwis breathed a sigh of relief when Sri Lanka scored 147 against Pakistan, which was the total needed for them to advance to the knockouts.

While they are searching for a consistent team performance, individual brilliance has kept them alive. Openers Tim Seifert (216 runs) and Finn Allen (189 runs) are in good touch, while Glenn Phillips has been reliable in the middle order. In the bowling department, Rachin Ravindra stands tall with 9 wickets, including a tournament-best 4 for 27.

India
Defending champions India are two steps away from creating another history. Sanju Samson’s composed knock (97* from 50 balls) mixed with aggression against the West Indies on Sunday at Eden Gardens, helped them to seal a T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final berth.

India, no doubt, has one of the best batting line-ups in the tournament, with incredible depth till No.8. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav is among the runs for the side with 231 runs in 7 matches at a strike rate of 135.88, followed by Pocket dynamo Ishan Kishan, who has made 224 runs in 7 innings at a strike rate of 185.12. While others, Tilak Varma (178 runs), Hardik Pandya (172 runs), Shivam Dube (166 runs), all have played their parts.

With the ball, Varun Chakravarthy has bagged the most wickets for Men in Blue with 12 scalps, while Jasprit Bumrah takes the second spot with 9 wickets. After a defeat to South Africa in their opening Super 8s fixture, India didn’t look back and put in a lot of effort to qualify for T20 World Cup Semi-final.

Conclusion
The battle for the title intensifies as we approach the business end of the T20 World Cup 2026. Will India successfully defend their title or will England convert their third T20 title? New Zealand and South Africa fight for their first title, but only one will make it to the final. We have a lot to look forward to this week. Let’s gear up for the ultimate showdown.
